Carla Sue Lawhorn a 17 year old from Dunkirk was electrocuted Monday afternoon in Pennville Indiana while sunbathing in a friend’s backyard. She was shocked as she tried to roll a radio toward an extension cord.
At Sydney Royal Women's Hospital a seventh of nine infants born to Geraldine Brodrick died today leaving one boy and one girl alive. The baby girl died at 11:15 a.m. after a 55 hour survival. The mother, 29, had five boys and four girls in one pregnancy, a world record per medical experts. Three others died within 24 hours, two were stillborn, and a sixth baby girl died early today.
Lebanon hosts the District 656 Rotary Assembly at Lebanon High School Auditorium for 30 Central Indiana clubs. Presidents-Elect and other officers attend as new duties begin July 1. Dr Wesley N Haines of Franklin College to address on Rotary Minds That Never Grow Old.
UPI reports Senators Herman Talmadge and B Everett Jordan, long-time supporters of the Vietnam effort, now back total withdrawal. Jordan plans to vote for the disengagement act and both urge an immediate end to U.S. combat in Indochina by December 31. Talmadge cites constitutional objections but urges disengagement and prisoner releases. The Senate tally shows 38 committed to end the war, with a 51 vote against, eight undecided, and three absent or not voting. The House also debates a $21.8 billion weapons authorization.
Sam Oats announces verification that Lebanon will be featured in an MGM documentary to be aired nationwide on ABC TV this fall. Michael Bloebaum and a Hollywood crew will film July 3 and 4 capturing the parade, bike race, square dancing, fireworks, and Memorial Park crowd as part of a midwestern small city Fourth celebration portrayal.

United Press International reports scattered thunderstorms easing humidity across Indiana. Seymour logged 2.7 inches of rain in 24 hours, Medora 1.70, Columbus 0.06. Pleasant View in Shelby County noted a severe storm with hail and downed trees. Indianapolis Airport reported no rain. Forecast calls for fair, warm conditions Wednesday with possible showers Thursday and dry Friday and Saturday.
Albuquerque faced a second night of civil unrest as youths smashed storefronts and hurled projectiles at National Guard units. Fires totaled 61, with 460 injuries reported. guards ceased patrols by dawn and a city meeting was called to consider extending the curfew.
Lebanon public school board aims to outline a $2.5 million middle school plan at tonight 7:30 pm meeting in the high school. Superintendent Gordon Ruff and Shaver & Co consider six classrooms funded by the cumulative building fund with a 20 year payment plan. Also on the agenda: teacher contracts bids burglar alarm Perry-Worth School and Open Concept survey progress. Nixon orders Hodgson to head jobs program for unemployed veterans of Vietnam war.
Boone County plans resurfacing on two roads with a total of about 111 000 dollars from county funds. Tri angle Asphalt Co. to perform work on Road 300S west of Whitestown and on old Pittsboro Road toward the county line. Additional requests include 2500 for circuit court equipment and 3000 to establish Eagle Township Assessor office. A new bridge in Jackson Township estimated at 10000. Meeting set for 9 a.m. June 22 for the appropriation agenda.
Washington officials call Times publication a serious matter as the government seeks an injunction under the Espionage Act. The Times defends proceeding, arguing public access to the Pentagon study is in the national interest while the Justice Department weighs next steps.
