Lebanon High School Graduate Dies In I-65 Crash

An 18 year old Lebanon High School graduate Robert S Hunter died on arrival at Witham Memorial Hospital after a southbound I 65 crash near the SR 32 interchange. His car allegedly struck a guardrail and overturned sending him onto the pavement. A second car driven by Paul Fabing followed and struck him, dragging him 50 feet. Fabing was not charged. Hunter had worked at Ralston Co Arbor Acres and had been enrolled at Lain Technical Institute. Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Monday at Russell Hitch Funeral Home with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Survivors include parents Richard and (unnamed) Hunter two brothers and a sister.

Spock And 3 Others Face Prison Terms

Dr. Benjamin Spock and three others were found guilty in U.S. District Court of conspiring to counsel youths to evade the draft. The four face up to five years imprisonment or fines with sentencing set for July 10. Acquitted was Marcus Raskin.

Longtime Lebanon Store Clerk Retires After 44 Years

A. Roy Litton retires from Dorthea's after four decades in textiles and dry goods. Beginning at 16, he worked in Adler stores, then Fulwider-Litton, later aiding Mrs. Dorthea Smith. At 77, he plans gardening, reading, Lions Club involvement, and visits with neighbors and “kiddies,” while offering lifelong fabric expertise.

Filling Station Attendant Slain in Apparent Robbery

Cedar Lake Indiana state police report Charles W. Lock 59 Cedar Lake a Cornick Service Station employee was found shot to death early today in the station office. He wore only a shirt and socks and was killed by shots to the forearm and chest. An undetermined amount of money was missing from the register.

Wolfe Carpet Buys Building For New Life

Charles Wolfe, owner of Wolfe Carpet, will move to the old Taylor Smock Furniture Store Building, offering expanded floor covering lines after extensive remodeling. He expects to be in by September or early 1969 with three times his current space. The present 115 West Main Street site will be vacated, with tenants yet to be finalized. The Taylor Smock Building, once Lebanon’s opera house, has historic remnants atop its ceiling. In other city news, two Indiana servicemen in Vietnam were killed, Lance Cpl. Ralph L. Harper of Indianapolis and Pfc. Jonathan L. Stoops of Union City.

Indiana traffic toll nears six hundred as weekend deaths top seven in first 12 hours. In Du Bois County four killed in a two car crash Friday night near Dale. Three victims from one family identified. others include John W Mullins. A second fatal crash occurred near Valparaiso and a Boone County guard rail collision claimed Robert Hunter.
