Chickan Thieves Denied New Trial In Crawfordsville Case
Special Judge Edgar A Rice in Crawfordsville Friday evening sentenced Louise Pennamon age 39 and Erwin Williams age 24 both described as Indianapolis negroes to serve one to ten years in state institutions. Pennamon to Michigan City State Prison and Williams to Pendleton Reformatory. Deputy Wilbur Small to transport them next week. They were charged with stealing 85 chickens from L C Pitzer farm near Whitestown. Each defendant pleaded not guilty and attempted to shift blame to another Indianapolis man who, Pennamon said, lent his car the night the fowls were taken. The car occupants, fired upon by Boone county farmers during a raid on a henhouse, returned fire. The Pitzer chickens were taken the same night. Several sacks, three chickens and guns were found in Pennamon’s possession.

Boone County to Start Checking Corn Acreage Monday
The Boone County Allotment Committee announced that compliance checks on 10 corn contracts will begin in the county on Monday. Supervisors will measure acreage today and then complete field checks within ten days at the county office to ensure contract limits are not exceeded. If excess corn is found, farmers may replant the surplus acreage in another crop. Confirmed that there will be no contract noncompliance this year.
