Ida McCassin of Shelheer, daughter of A A McCassin of Nobletreet, has been named to the state board of registration and examination of nurses to fill the vacancy caused by Louise G Cobb’s resignation. Miss McCassin will serve from July 7, 1917 to 1098, with qualifications noted and congratulations from colleagues.
Frank Isenhour of Whitestown enlisted Friday in the U S Army for machine gun service and will report for duty August 1st. New white satin hat is just received at Craig's.
Ira M. Sharp spoke to a full G A R hall on The Flag addressing democracy versus autocracy, Kaiser tyranny, and the fight to preserve freedom. The event featured patriotic songs, readings, and benediction as communities shared in the war effort.
The Thorntown Times reports Prank Broottes and Raf Wilson had a troubled evening Saturday at the Sugar Creek ford by the Fret Yonkey and former Harvey Huber properties. Bristley departed town and the group attempted to cross the stream finding the entire outfit afloat.
Darlington held its largest Flag Day celebration with a parade from East Christian church to the library. Jamestown band led the procession followed by Camp Fire girls, Boy Scouts, Red Cross members, and various clubs. At the library Rev. Liddy Heath led prayers and Camp Fire girls sang as Rev. Z. T. Sweeney spoke on the flag. Cameron Martin and Norman Thompson of Company C hoisted the flag as the crowd cheered. Evening concerts by the Jamestown band closed the day, noted as the town’s most patriotic celebration.
Word arrives that Wil lam F. Kleiser formerly of this city now in Crowley Louisiana is seriously shot. Kleiser once owned a Lebanon music store and is identified as a musician in the Crowley business.
An appeal urges Indiana residents to support the American Red Cross drive to raise 1,000,000 for Red Cross work at home and overseas. The message honors French and American soldiers, stresses that those who cannot enlist can still contribute, and invites all to give what they can to aid wounded troops.
