In Thorntown, the Barker family marks Flag Day with a boisterous display featuring national and state colors and a homemade cannon. The cannon uses an old wagon carriage and hollowed post, painted for realism, while the house and yard create a Civil War era impression. The wooden barrel shows a hole at both ends.
Hart Development Co plans a 132 home single family subdivision on 83.4 acres east of SR 334 in Zionsville with lots selling over $50,000 and a January 1974 start if rezoning and approvals proceed. The project would extend sewer and water to the area while avoiding Eagle Creek flood plain.
Western Boone Junior-Senior High School foundation work moves forward eight miles west of Lebanon on State Road 32. Caissons for Phase Five are to be drilled and set today, with 340 caissons total planned. Beams will follow next week as weather allows. full completion date remains undetermined.
The Indiana Court of Appeals ruled that long term lessors of property appropriated by the state qualify for compensation beyond landowners. The state must pay Milburn Watts $5000 and Atlantic-Richfield Oil Company $18,000 for a 1958 Boone County service station lost when land was acquired from Dr. Robert H. Nelson.
A jury trial will open Monday in Boone Superior Court on a suit filed April 6 to recover compensation for personal injuries against the State of Indiana. Plaintiff Doyle Lincoln Collier alleges injury against the State Department of Natural Resources and the Bureau of Land Forest and Wildlife with named defendants Joseph A. Blatt Bruce Hammond Eugene Knoy and Rodney.
Public Service Commission of Indiana schedules a June 27 hearing in Indianapolis on United Telephone Company of Indiana petition. It seeks reclassification of exchanges, merger of Wilkinson and Kennard, removal of two business service offerings, rate increases on key equipment and directory listings, and revised tariffs. Case stems from a September 4, 1966 diving incident at Hulman Beach leading to civil actions and land condemnation for the I-65 corridor. Judges, attorneys, and state officials are named in the proceedings and appeals.

President Nixon announced a 60 day consumer price freeze starting today as Phase III controls fail to curb inflation. Wages remain unfrozen, with Phase IV planned later. Raw farm products are exempt at first sale but covered at grocery stores. rents and financial charges largely outside the freeze. An IRS profit sweep will check for violations since January under Phase III rules.
