Ralph Oliphant, 38, a World War sergeant from Jamestown, killed himself with twelve grains of strychnine after expressing dread of an operation at the Great Lakes Veterans hospital near Chicago. Coroner investigated. mother found him shortly after he took the poison. He enlisted early in the war but never served overseas and received discharge in 1919.
