Rioters Attack Smelting Plant Result in Fatalities and Injuries
In Perth Amboy New Jersey a thousand strikers attacked the American Smelting and Refining plant gatehouse after attempting to burn the fence. One striker Stephen Dudack aged thirty two was killed by rifle fire and four others were wounded two seriously. Private detectives guarding the plant repelled the attack with rifles as Brigadier General B J Collins of the New Jersey National Guard was on scene through the night.

Batterton Couple Mark 59th Wedding Anniversary
Today observed the fifty ninth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Batterton with a quiet family dinner at their daughter Mrs. W. T. Hooton’s home. They married near Pickards Mill in Tipton County and lived in Tipton, Clinton, Howard, Decatur, Owen and Boone counties before moving to Lebanon in October 1882. Mr. Batterton was eighty on June 11 and his wife’s birthday is in June. He was born in Madison County Kentucky and she in Rush County Kentucky.

Woman Hurt After Barn Floor Breaks Through
