Eastern headquarters orders closure and liquidation of a large on hand stock in Lebanon. Readily cutting prices on clothing, hats and caps, ladies and gents furnishings, chinaware, glassware and tinware to reduce losses. Offers aggressive markdowns to move surplus inventory.
The great silver convention at the Auditorium weighs remonetization with Sibley Tillman Butler and others arguing for a silver party and within party lines. The conservative faction insists on free silver within party discipline while warning of national stakes and economic peril. A committee on resolutions critiques monetary policy, cites dangers of demonetizing silver or gold, and calls for a Chicago meeting of a national committee in July.
The Howard Hareccu Jean company at Bessemer with 1500 workers raises wages by 10 percent effective June 15. An unsuccessful attempt was made to wreck and rob the Louisville and Nashville pay car between Vandalia and Covington Kentucky near a high trestle. Ties were fastened to the track as a through freight neared the trestle. The freight train found no obstruction at the scene.

The case echoes the Alabama affair, testing U.S. duty to prevent armed expeditions from friendly nations. Secretary Smith issues a decision affecting Western homesteaders. 2,500 Printing Office workers shift to civil service.
A local dealer announces a large sale of muslin garments from a Boston manufacturer. Samples include ladies skirts chemises drawers and corset covers priced from 10 cents to 3.50 with bargains claimed at less than cost of manufacture. Ladies urged to view the assortment now.
A crowded sale offers ladies untrimmed hats from 0 to 60 cents and trimmed hats from 0.80 to 1.60 dollars. Lace trimmed hoods and assorted hats are poured out at two cents each, as the store clears stock in a brisk, cash-only event.
