Grand jury to be convened in Boone double slaying
A Boone County Grand Jury is expected to hear evidence in the Saturday night killings of two cousins in Lebanon. Autopsies began on Melvin Childers and Timothy Childress as authorities said the shooting arose from domestic differences. The suspect, Bryan Haughton, 21, is held on first degree murder charges with the case likely going to the grand jury.

Robber steals 4500 at Waffle House in Lyons incident
A Mexican male in his early 30s robbed the Waffle House near Indianapolis Avenue, threatening and handcuffing assistant manager Charles Evans to a linen closet. About 8:45 p.m. he demanded the safe, fled in a green car, and no one was hurt. Deputy Tony Jarnes led the investigation.

Six injured over weekend in city county wrecks
Six people were injured in separate city and county accidents over the weekend. The most serious was Vivian Montgomery, 40, of Route 1 Lebanon, who suffered eye injuries and head and shoulder cuts after a two car crash at 3 15 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of county roads 550E and 675N. She was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital by Boone County Ambulance Service.

Drug offender given shock probation and second trial set
Edwin C. Quebe, 22, released on shock probation after pleading guilty to delivery of a dangerous drug on December 13, 1976. He must repay Boone County pauper attorney fees and avoid any law violations while remaining on probation for 18 months. He secured a job and will begin working immediately. George Gosnell, 38, awaiting trial on marijuana delivery charges from 1975, had a jury not yet called as his attorney had changed. He faces an amended information charging him as a second offender. trial is scheduled for September.
