Killer Bridge Tragedy on U S 41 Claims Two Illinois Men
A fatal crash on a slick Kankakee River bridge near Lake Newton County line killed Elza Fark, 27, and Richard Simmons, 33, as Indiana’s 1970 road toll rose to at least 595. The northbound car skidded, struck a guard rail, then the bridge. A separate crash on Interstate 65 near Columbus killed six month old Christopher Wilkerson, with his mother Patricia Wilkerson driving sans license and possibly dozing.

Three men were indicted by an Elkhart County grand jury on murder related charges in the kidnapping slaying of 28 year old Larry Kent Conley.
