At 9 45 a m today a north bound car driven by Carl E Teachnor Jr 22 Elwood turned into the Junction Inn in front of a southbound car driven by Samuel Vawter 43 Route 1 Sheridan Damages total 650. Teachnor was arrested for failure to yield right of way. No injuries reported. A second two car wreck at West 1011st Street and SR 39 South at 8 55 a m involved Carol Hysong 27 Route 1 Jamestown and Nancy Dale 31 North Salem with no injuries or charges. Police Trooper Dave Zellers investigated.

Federal Suit Seeks 250000 In Hawk Death
A federal court suit seeks 250000 against the Pullman Co of Delaware for the death of Leonard Hawk who was killed while mowing his front yard when a wheel from a passing semi detached. Eugene B Burns representing the Hawk estate alleges improper manufacturing and inspection of the trucks axle. The incident occurred May 2 1968 about a mile north of Lebanon. No trial date set.

Boone Road Crossing Toll Rises With Four More Dead
A 3:10 p.m. crash at US 421 and State Road 32 killed an Ottumwa couple Edna Shipley 65 and Ivan Shipley 69 and two Indianapolis hitchhikers Steven Clayton 20 and Paul Bonnewell 19. The Shipleys died at the scene from skull fractures while Clayton died minutes after, Bonnewell from a crushed chest.

Reds Launch New Drives Against Viets
Communist shellings and terror attacks overnight killed 52 South Vietnamese and wounded 74. The U S Command said a new offensive began northward as Viet Cong and North Vietnamese gunners hit 22 population centers including Da Nang and Bien Hoa. Bien Hoa Air Base was struck, a hospital hit, 15 government soldiers killed, 11 wounded. Da Nang saw five rockets land on a U S Navy compound. one rocket misfired into a shantytown. Eight civilians died and 16 were wounded. Operation Pipestone Canyon began 11 miles southwest of Da Nang with 2,000 U S and South Korean troops since May 26, killing 234 guerrillas. U S losses were 31 dead and 240 wounded. The mission aims to secure the rice triangle between Hoi An and An Hoa, a Communist bivouac on a Da Nang approach route. Hue and Duc Pho also saw major fire.

First 900 U S. troops to be pulled from Vietnam

A circuit court jury awarded 12 200 to Mr and Mrs Francis C Richardson of Boone County against the Public Service Company in a condemnation case over a right of way where dual power lines cross. Ten point eight three acres were taken with appraisers previously estimating about 10 830. Nine jurors and three alternates delivered the verdict under Judge Charles F Thompson with concurrent claims actions ruled by Judge Paul Johnson Jr. in the same session.
