Veteran city employee Pleas Wallen of Lebanon retires after a 40 year career with Lebanon Utilities. A former fireman and water department meter reader, he served 27 years with the Water Company and later the Utilities department before retirement on January 1. Murder indictment expands in Boone County case
A Boone County grand jury amended the murder indictment against Robert C. Wiles of Hamilton County for the death of his wife Janice M. Wiles. The new first degree charge accuses Wiles of beating, shooting, and stabbing his wife in their Jackson Township home on December 5, 1962. Arraignment is scheduled for July 1 in County Circuit Court.

Two Children Die In Crash Near Goshen Indiana
Two children died when two cars collided head on on a country road about three miles northeast of Goshen. Darrell Bontrager 22 and Colline Hooley 1 were killed. Five others injured including Roselice Bontrager 22 Diane Bontrager 1 and Juanita Yoder from Middlebury. The six day tally of fatal accidents in Indiana climbs to at least 505 for the year with multiple deaths in several counties.

Boy Injured After Fall From Carnival Ride
Hershel Lord an eight year old boy remained in poor condition at St. Joseph's Hospital in Mishawaka Indiana after falling from a compartment of a carnival ride named The Octopus He was reportedly on his knees when he suddenly pitched into the air prompting an investigation by authorities and witnesses described the accident as the ride malfunctioning during a Wednesday night visit with no other injuries reported at the scene.

Many Dealers Must Register For Indiana Tax Deadlines
Indiana revenue officials warned that up to 89 percent of wholesalers and retailers have not registered for the two percent sales tax by the June deadline. State Revenue Commissioner James C. Courtney said only about 35,000 applications have been received with 115,000 to 125,000 more expected. He noted many groups including hotels motels manufacturers wholesalers and charities fail to register and face higher taxes and penalties if they do not comply before midnight Friday. Banks are supplying application blanks to speed enrollments.

Former Postal Employee Here Pleads Guilty
Russell O Burress, 26, of 717 Weg Washington Street, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Federal court in Indianapolis to embezzling $698.92 in postal funds while employed at the Lebanon post office as a clerk and carrier. He appeared before Judge William E Steckler for a pre sentence investigation and is free on bond of $2000 after a June 3 hearing. Burress disappeared May 2 and a warrant for arrest was issued May 27 after an audit showed a shortage. He had been in Chicago working before surrendering June 1. Postal inspector Albert M Roberts reported the shortage.
