Boone native Mark Elliott dies at his Carmel home after a prolonged illness. Born near Thorntown, he was son of Peter and unnamed Elliott. Survived by wife Denna and a daughter and three sons. Funeral services Friday at 2 pm at Sugar Plain Cemetery with Rev Kirk officiating. graveside rites at 3 45 pm.
Algiers area reports indicate nationalist rebels killed 22 Arabs in Bou Andas Mountains southeast of Algiers on Tuesday night. The attack comes after a French offensive two weeks earlier that left about 500 rebels killed or captured. The nationalists accuse Arab collaborators of aiding the French.

Mary Bertha Shull 74 of Thorntown died March 8 1882 at home in Sharp esville following a stroke. She was wife of Lowen L Shull and mother of Thelma Hinman Pauline Hawkins and Glyden Shull. Services set for Thursday at Sharpsville Methodist Church with burial in Sharpsville cemetery.

State police filed a bank robbery affidavit against Roy Rudolph Drake 32 an escaped convict in the 66 M1 robbery of the Southport State Bank. A pickup order was broadcast Midwest. Drake last lived Franklin Indiana and formerly Indianapolis. He fled San Quentin January 1944 after armed robbery. later captured in Jackson Mississippi then escaped again. Drake, described as cautious, left $500 after rejecting a $2 bid.
Miss Marie Cash, long time medical missionary with the Women’s General Missionary Society of the United Presbyterian Church, returned from seven years in Pakistan. She is visiting her father near Lebanon while on furlough after sailing via Calcutta and Manila. She described floods, losses of crops, and hardship in the Punjab region near Pasrur and Lahore, noting crowded, inadequately equipped local hospitals and her village dispensary work.
