London labor minister Sir Walter Monckton said talks to end Britain's 16 day railroad strike are at a critical stage with substantial difficulties remaining. Labour leaders urged the Commons not to debate the matter now while emergency regulations to keep essential supplies moving were discussed. The strike involves thousands of locomotive enginemen and firemen and affects the British Transport Commission.
Chicago report says 27-year-old rookie Donald Cathay was found shot in the back on a Northwest Side sidewalk. He wore uniform and gun belt. off duty after a night shift. Witnesses Bernity Seay and Forest Seay were questioned. Theodore Wased reported hearing a shot and seeing them with Cathay near Fairfield Avenue.
Nova E Cash dies at eight miles northeast of Lebanon at Witham Hospital Sunday afternoon aged 64. She was born November 27 1889 in Lebanon the daughter of John F and Lizzie Howard Martin. She married December 9 190 at Bart's in Lebanon. Survived by husband Mre Cash. Funeral Tuesday 2 pm Russell Hitch Funeral Home with Rev Mark Antony officiating burial Oak Hill Cemetery. Le Mans France hosts a mass funeral for 74 killed in the worst track disaster in racing history. Pierre Levegh’s Mercedes-Benz slammed into the crowd during the 21 hour race, injuring many as ambulances struggled to reach the scene. The accident did not halt the event, as Hawthorn and Bueb won in a Jaguar despite the tragedy.
Willard K Adams 52 died Sunday at General Hospital Los Angeles after surgery last Wednesday. Burial arrangements set for Tuesday or Wednesday. Born on a Lebanon farm, son of Andrew and ____ Adams, charter members of Lebanon First Baptist Church. Worked for Cincinnati Store, Adler and Company, and later traveled for various firms. Spent 30 years in California as a personal representative for the late Prot So Landing singer and Vauer caard Supoxurs. Survived by sister Mrs Powell of Indianapolis, two grandchildren, several nephews and nieces, wife Myrtle Baker, three children Anna Lowers Mary Katherine and Andres Adams, and three sisters. Preceded in death by a brother.
James Ford of Thorntown was ticketed after a Saturday 150 p crash at Main and North Street. He faced charges of reckless driving and lack of operator’s license for driving a car owned by William Hamilton of Lebanon Route 3. Damages to the vehicle totaled 125 dollars. Ford was ordered to report to the Justice of the Pearce Court on June 1.

The board also granted a 37 lot addition at Russell’s Lake and addressed a collapsed Jackson Township bridge with replacement costs estimated at 15,000 to 20,000 dollars, risking bridge fund depletion.

Federal police raided the episcopal palace in Buenos Aires arresting 40 men who sought refuge after Catholic clashes with Peron supporters. Raymond Snow of Route 2 and Evan B Alger of Indianapolis collided at a four way stop at Main and East streets Sunday afternoon. Damage to the Alger car amounted to about 45 dollars.
