Indiana observers say Governor McNutt has firm control after the state convention. The ticket names Minton for U S Senator and Mueller, Sullivan, Hein, McMurray, Tremain, Cur tis, Wood, Kime, Bridwell, and Stump for key posts. Frederick Van Nuys faltered as McNutt consolidated power.
Washington notes United States will consider payment of ten billion dollars owed by debtor nations in goods or services rather than cash. Secretary Hull challenges Britain and others to offer in kind payment or admit avoidance of obligations. The move aims to avoid a universal default while signaling no drastic debt reductions. In Jetson Indiana on June 13 Sam Case father of Everett Se Case, a famous high school basketball mentor at Frankfort and Anderson, committed suicide at a local factory by cyanide of potassium used as plating fluid. He had worked there over 45 years. Widow and two sons survive. No motive given.
A series of severe earthquakes has struck a vast interior region of Argentina between the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. Despite the uninhabited terrain limiting loss of life, many are injured and property damage runs into millions. Sampacho lies in ruins as tremors persist amid heavy rains and flooding in Buenos Aires reports.
Indianapolis June 13. Sherman Minton of New Albany nominated for the U S Senate by the Democrats based his campaign on service with the Indiana Public Service Commission where rate cuts followed McNutt’s new deal. Mueller of Indianapolis named Secretary of State. Sullivan of Princeton Auditor. Hein of Crown Point Treasurer. McMurray of Thorn favorable to party positions.
At the state Democratic convention Floyd I McMurray of Thorntown was nominated without opposition for state superintendent of public instruction. He succeeds George C Cole who resigned to lead Indiana State Normal School. McMurray will serve the unexpired term through March 1935, having recently taken charge after leaving Boone county schools.
Chicago grain market strengthened with corn leading gains. Near mid session prices were modestly below session highs as corn rose about 1.5 cents, wheat advanced fractionally, oats and rye also edged higher. September corn touched 61 and September wheat traded above 1 dollar.
Donald Murray, ex Chicago taxi driver, told St Paul police he saw John Dillinger with three men in a small Illinois-licensed car at Northfield Minnesota. Murray, who claimed to have driven Dillinger in 1926 and 1928, described the encounter and noted the Illinois plates 624-022. Police doubted the claim, noting Dillinger was reportedly in an Indiana prison in 1924 to 1928.
Two men left a Stand ard station on North Lebanon Street without paying after fueling fifteen gallons. The attendant hung up the hose and saw them escape west on North Street. License plate on the blue Pontiac traced to Rockville, originally issued for a Buick.
Two West Lafayette men William Strate 48 and William Sanders 45 were fatally injured when Strates car and a large truck collided head on on U S Highway 52 near the Hedrick sawmill southeast of Royalton shortly after six this morning Strate driven the car and Sanders a passenger both had been in Indianapolis attending the Democratic state convention Mary Hedrick was driving cattle across the highway and Harold Stoner of Indianapolis drove the truck Coroner Dr T M OBrien said the crash was unavoidable and Strate died at the scene while Sanders died at Witham hospital after being crushed about the chest
Two Frankfort men Thomas Holt 55 and Thomas McKinney 40 were arraigned in Boone county on charges from an auto crash a half mile north of Lebanon on State Road 39. Holt pleaded guilty to operating while intoxicated and was sentenced to sixty days at the state penal farm and fined 20 dollars by Mayor John C Perkins. McKinney was fined one dollar plus costs in Squire Conner's Court for intoxication. The car Holt drove struck Cecil Graham of Mechanicsburg. the pair fled but were later apprehended after State Policeman Ernest Richardson obtained Holt’s license from Graham.
Mrs. Jane Davis arrives home this evening from Fort Myers where she spent the winter with her brother and family Mr and Mrs William J Wood. She is accompanied by her nephew Kemp Wood who will visit at her North Lebanon street home through the summer before entering Purdue University this fall.
Governor Paul McNutt’s leadership dominates Indiana Democratic convention as Sherman Minton is nominated for U S Senator. Pleas Greenlee steered the Minton campaign, signaling a strong McNutt influence and boosting support for Roosevelt’s New Deal while Robinson opposes most New Deal measures. The result will test Indiana voters on the Roosevelt program ahead of November.
Boone county delegates praised Floyd McMurray for state superintendent of instruction noting his prior appointment by Governor McNutt and a flawless record in public school work. The nomination drew no opposition and affirmed McMurray as highly qualified for the role.

Washington June 13 A permanent federal conciliation board headed by President Roosevelt would be created to settle labor troubles as an emergency agency. The three member board would include the President, with two temporary members from management and labor. the President could appoint a delegate for disputes and convene talks for a final decision.
W O Thompson quits as National Review Board member, alleging the NRA has fizzled and is dominated by big interests. In a lengthy letter to President Roosevelt he criticizes the NRA, General Hugh Johnson, and implicitly his former partner Clarence Darrow and other board colleagues.
New York June 13 Seven teen of the crew of the Norwegian steamer Knut Hamsun which burned and sank Sunday 120 miles off the coast of Honduras have been adrift in an open boat under burning tropical sun. Captain George McBride skipper of the United Fruit liner Zacatan radioed news of the disaster saying he rescued the captain and sixteen of the crew as they drifted over glassy seas under a flaming sky.
The Main Taxi Company, run for years by Floyd E. Smith, has been purchased by Arthur C. Cline, Lebanon bus agent. Cline has set headquarters at the bus station corner Meridian and South streets and will personally run the taxi service.
Misses Mary Herr Shelby Lucy Thompson Emogene Bla bauga and Martha Jane Patterson and Mrs Charles Patterson visit Martinsville this evening to see a Jane revue staged by Mrs Gretehun Kemp Thompson.
William Barnett of Indiana University arrived last night for a brief visit staying with Rev. and Mrs. Carl Bar at their home on East Main for a few days of fellowship and conversation.
