A fire damaged the rest room and storage building at Lebanon Little League Park shortly before noon. Firemen tore into walls to reach the blaze before it reached gasoline cans and mowing machines. Officials could not determine the exact cause, but speculated spontaneous combustion inside the building.
Washington UPI reports the pay raise bill passed the House 243 to 157 with no Senate action scheduled. The measure would boost white collar federal workers by 4 to 22 percent, raise Congress salaries from 22500 to 30000, and grant raises to Cabinet members, Supreme Court justices, and other top officials.
Alan Stanford of Indiana Bell demonstrated push button dialing at a Lebanon Kiwanis luncheon. He showed rapid long distance access to Washington and Chicago, and announced the upcoming dial operation in Lebanon on January 17 with expanded area service, reduced rates, and fewer party lines. Bell plans new buildings and ongoing innovations including automatic busy-signal recall and the picture phone connecting New York World’s Fair to Disney Land. Guests included Matixdowder, Doc Heath, Bob McFrye, Willard Green, Jim Gabbard, and John Gundy.
The immediate past commander Harry Jameson announces the election and installation of Chester C. B. Blubaugh to lead Brown-Dolson Post 113 for the coming year. Blubaugh, a WWI veteran from Lebanon, will be supported by Wayne Houser and Mayo Reeves as vice commanders, John Hicks as finance officer, Herb Ransdell as Service Officer, Charles C Young as chaplain, Austin Wall as historian, Judge Charles F. Thompson as judge advocate, Leon Virtue as sergeants at arms, and new executives James R. Turner and James Grizzle for three years. Delegates to the Evansville State Convention include Chester Blubaugh, Harry Jameson, Leon Virtue, Mayo Reeves, and James Turner.
United Press International reports Governor William W Scranton of Pennsylvania declared for the presidency at the Maryland Republican state convention. He warned that nominating Barry Goldwater would wipe out any chance for a fall victory and urged a convention not a coronation in San Francisco. He acknowledged a late challenge and said the party would not decide until the final roll call four weeks hence.
A group of 43 American Field Service students from 24 countries will arrive in Lebanon on July 3 for a three day stay to view how Small town U S A celebrates Independence Day. They will be hosted by the Lebanon Rotary Club with viewing stands across from the Lebanon Armory.
Lebanon Memorial Park faces speeding and vandalism as the Park and Police Departments enforce a 15 mph limit. Unmarked police cars will monitor the area, license plates will be logged, and charges filed. Park officials note recent damage to tennis courts and playground equipment as volunteers assist in policing the park. Mayor Herbert Ransdell emphasizes preserving the park for all residents.
Three Boone County women compete for the Mrs Boone County title during Lebanon’s July 4th celebration. The entrants include Mrs Robert Dickerson of Jamestown R R 2 Advance and Mrs Kenneth Dooley and Mrs Elvin Downey of Lebanon.
The Boone County Sheriff's Office investigated a Junction Inn burglary at the SR 32 and US 421 corner. Two windows were broken on the west side to enter. Two billfolds two cigarette lighters and a coin box were taken from a jukebox area. The break-in occurred between 9 45 p m and 5 a m today.

United Press International reports that three teenagers died in Indiana traffic accidents on Thursday night. Daniel Hartz 18 and Thomas Maurer 16 of Evansville perished after Maurer’s car collided with a vehicle driven by Downey Thene 24 Elberfeld near Indiana 57. Richard Carr 16 of Plymouth died when his car overturned on Indiana 17. Carr’s brother Dennis 13 and James Vermillion 17 of Plymouth were injured. A separate crash killed Raymond Morris 41 of Hammond when his car hit a sign. authorities noted a seat belt might have saved him.
Indianapolis reporters note demonstrations at the Indiana Democratic state convention delayed six state ballot contests. Supporters paraded for John Bottorff William L Fortune Thomas Lemon and Roger Branigin as delegates prepared for voting. The convention approved a unit rule granting Johnson all 41 Hoosier votes and backed a sales tax reform platform while considering tax repeal efforts.

Boone County faces a weedy I-65 section as authorities dispute who should cut the grass. District engineer H C Wood says action will come, noting private contractors handle some mowing. Busche Company, Inc. has the Boone County contract and 25 working days after May 18 to clear the route.
