King George begins royal ceremonies in Sherbrooke with hour long bowels of respect and duties after a morning train from America. The royal party tours Quebec provinces stopping in Sherbrooke Levis and other towns, continuing to New Brunswick as part of a three province visit.
A powerful weekend storm in Indiana caused multiple deaths and extensive damage across counties including Grant, Lake, and Tippecanoe. Victims included Id Brown 26 and Jas 59 of Logansport, with trees uprooted, utilities down, and a DePauw campus tornado alert noting blown trees and damaged infrastructure.

Hunters load snakes into a truck after a delicate grasp behind the head, feeding them sparrows and mice before sale.
A man in Janesville Wisconsin, about 25 years old and 6'3", suffers memory loss yet can play piano and fly planes. Police cannot identify him. he recalls athletic and musical abilities from a cultured background. He wears a Chicago suit, has dark hair with a scar by his right eye, and leaves few clues beyond formidable talents.
Nelson, a young pro from Reading, Pa, defeats Craig Wood in a 36-hole playoff at a hot local course to capture the national open title. Wood carded 75 as Nelson posted 70 in the final round, a tournament going a record-tying distance after a tense earlier finish with Denny Shute eliminated yesterday.
Rough weather limitd turnout to about 75 players in the Ulen Honor Day tournament at the country club. The Ulen clan presented Mr and Mrs Henry C Ulen a large fruit basket for their anniversary. Noble Knowlton and John Kirby tied for low net with 70, both posting 79 and 70 respectively.
Washington June 12 The House appropriations deficiency subcommittee moved toward a bitter battle to reform the WPA as it debates President Roosevelt relief program for the fiscal year starting July 1. The panel aims to curb waste and economy, with a 60 day paid vacation provision among proposed administrative amendments, while liberal blocs seek to preserve 2,000,000 WPA jobs.
London reports Foreign Secretary Viscount Halifax declaring Britain will meet force with force. Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain signaled international peace talks are premature. Halifax warned the House of Lords that people must be ready to support a force aimed at promoting human society's aims.

Denver June 12 four of six youths who escaped from the Colorado state reformatory after kidnapping Warden Walter H Johnson and threatening his life were captured by posse men. They were seized on the abandoned Colorado salt works property about 20 miles northeast of Buena Vista. Announcement came from Mrs Minje Hail Desota who owns ranches in the district and spoke to national news by telephone through her sister-in-law Mr Thomas Mc Quads.

In Paris, the Louvre reveals a 4,000,000 franc painting theft, La Indifference, the first since 1911 Mona Lisa. Indianapolis reports guilty verdicts in banking and fraud trials as Kerr and Moore defendants convicted on four of six counts. Washington also notes the Norris bill to authorize TVA purchase of the Tennessee Electric Power Co. was favorably reported by the House Military Affairs Committee.
West Point N Y June 12 President Roosevelt told 1939 graduates that undefended nations require greater defense emphasis and national cooperation across all elements. He warned against isolation and praised allied friendship with Britain while stressing disciplined leadership and readiness for future crises.
