Cuban Refugee Castiel to Teach in Lebanon Schools
Cuban refugee Dr. Dionisio Castiel, age 52, will begin teaching Spanish at Lebanon Junior and Senior High Schools this September as part of a nationwide effort placing Cuban refugees in over 35 districts. Castiel, a former lawyer in Cuba, is fluent in Spanish, English and French and has taught in Havana high schools. He recently completed a 48 week teaching course at Indiana State College.

Maniac with flamethrower attacks Cologne elementary school
In Cologne Germany a man armed with a home-made flamethrower and crude spear attacked Volkhoven Elementary School spraying liquid fire and stabbing two teachers to death. The interior burned as students fled with 24 to 30 burned and at least 15 hospitalized. Police captured the wounded assailant Walter Seifert 42 after a chase. he claimed to be Adolf Hitler the Second. He was shot by officers and reported to have threatened revenge.

Patrolman's Car Kills Pedestrian in Indianapolis
United Press International reports a traffic fatality in downtown Indianapolis as Patrolman Thomas Robbins struck Abraham Kirsh, 65, who allegedly walked in front of the car after leaving roll call. Kirsh died at General Hospital 90 minutes later from a skull fracture and a broken hip. Witnesses say Kirsh crossed against a traffic light.

Hell Ship Pomona Returns After Inferno Fire
In Honolulu the Liberty Ship Pomona limped into port with most of its crew adrift in lifeboats after an engine room blaze. Three remained aboard to fight the fire and report the danger over. A tug towed the crippled vessel as lifeboats swamped and a coast guard plane aided. Brazilian-owned freighter with a Chinese crew had sailed from Honolulu to replace the mutinous crew.

The Lebanon Metropolitan School Board approved a Cumulative Building Fund of 1.0 per hundred dollars of assessed valuation, despite objections from Perry Township resident Charles Robinson. The plan could raise about $200,000 annually for ten years, with the board able to end or modify the levy as needs change.

Public Works Bill Approved By House Unit
The House Appropriations Committee approved a public works bill cutting budget requests by 46 million while adding almost 30 million to pork barrellike items. It boosted Army Engineers river harbor and flood control funding to 1.178 billion and Reclamation Bureau to 318 million. AEC funding was cut by 68.9 million from 2.323 billion. The panel approved all new starts plus 23 more, increasing over 13 million, with many future costs uncounted. Ohio and Texas gained new starts totaling 1.653 and 2.2 million respectively. Two unemployed brothers were arrested on suspicion of a $30,845 bank holdup after stealing two movie cameras from sentinel posts. County Youth Escapes Farm While Suspects Sought
Indiana law enforcement seeks 17 year old Whitestown youth Robert Northcutt and 17 year old Terry Lawngriener of Columbus after they fled the Indiana State Farm. They allegedly helped steal a vehicle from Clinton County, broke into a Zionsville service station, and were later found in Illinois. Police warned Northcutt may head toward Boone County.
