Senate recesses after 16 hours GOP filibuster
Washington June 10 The Senate ended an 11 hour session after a Republican filibuster blocked extending rent controls. Sen Harry Cain delivered a 12 hour 8 minute speech, the second longest since Huey Long. Senate to reconvene Monday to vote on sending the bill back to Banking Committee. If the killing motion fails, a Monday vote on the extension is hoped.

A lightning strike sparked a fire at the Emil Denemark farm four miles south of suburban Chicago destroying a large horse barn and about 22 race horses. Strikers Wives Defy Police in Zap North Dakota
Wives of striking coal miners blocked a train at Zap, North Dakota, by lying across the tracks. They defied police and pledged to return if coal moved. A crew halted the train after an emergency cord was pulled. women immediately replaced each other on the rails until the train was diverted to a siding. Officials said no immediate move to remove the coal. One woman shouted she was ready to do it again, raising a fist at a patrolman.

Man accused of trying to sell stolen chickens in Frankfort
Boone and Clinton county sheriffs deputies searched today for a man believed to have offered 187 chickens for sale in Frankfort yesterday. A Frankfort resident reported the loss of 250 chickens over the past week and suspects the sale involved part of that lot. The attempt occurred at Shirley Poultry and Feed Co. 406 East Noble Street. The man asked an employee if the firm would buy the chickens but fled when asked his name.
