In Constantinople on June 10 a wedding hall floor collapsed causing ten deaths and fifteen injuries among guests and celebrants. Emergency crews and rescuers responded as authorities opened inquiries into the disaster.
Boone County Commissioners spent much of their June meeting on bridges and highways. Contractors were awarded several bridge contracts totaling over 20,000 dollars. Bridges numbered 2 through 15 received bids and inspectors were named for each. A joint project with Clinton County awarded a Sims Joint Ditch bridge contract. Several gravel road petitions were granted or continued, and bond issue notices were ordered. Viewers were appointed for multiple townships as the session continued.

The Rev. A. E. Cowley leads a second tour through Baptist Land at First Baptist Church Baraca Room at 7 30 pm. The talk covers Home Mission Territory and reviews the splendid Aprial Report from the Northern Baptist Convention. A previous session was well received and more people are urged to attend.
Berlin June 10 The Reichstag ratified the Russo-German neutrality treaty by a rising vote after a tumultuous hour or two as nationalists and socialists clashed over proposed expropriation of former royal property. The vote followed Locarno era tensions and anti-soviet interpretations. Hermann Mueller socialist leader sparked the row during discussion.
The Lebanon Rotary Club departs Friday at 9 30 for the national convention in Denver. The local group includes Mr and Mrs Frank Wooley Isadore Eichman and Frank Coombs joining Indiana delegates in Indianapolis for a special train with six Indiana loads. They plan Sunday in Colorado Springs before arriving in Denver Sunday night. Dr Harvey Whiffing and Mrs Whiffing won t attend due to her illness. Registrations for the convention were reported as already underway.
Washington June 10 The rivers and harbors bill advancing through the senate faces opposition as the commerce committee weighs hearings. Senator Deneen Republican Illinois plans to press action without hearings. Critics argue the measure permits Chicago water diversions harming Great Lakes interests and may delay the bill this session.
The 139th Field Artillery Indiana National Guard training school ended in Lebanon after a weeklong session. An informal dinner at Ulen Country Club featured Lebanon talent and praise from visiting officers for the local guard unit and the 189th Regimental Band.
Washington reports the season will yield the smallest crop in 15 years due to an unseasonable spring. Winter wheat should total about 543,300,000 bushels, up from last year, but most other crops are well below normal with spring wheat 7.4 percent under the ten year average. Northwest moisture shortages hit yields while southwest and west hay crops look good. Corn and late crops not yet planted, no production estimates available.
The highway commission investigation report, released recently, does not support circulating rumors. The study, costing about 30000 dollars, involved up to four two man teams over nearly two years reviewing the commission's accounts and records in Indiana.
Charles C. Watson, 20, living west of Lebanon, pleaded guilty to forging E M Coons name on a $100 check. Judge Frank E. Hutchinson suspended a two to fourteen year sentence in the Indiana Reformatory. Watson had no prior record. The same court committed Robert Edward Johnson, 7, to the Indiana School for Feeble Minded Youth, and awarded Mrs. Alice Heady $519.47 against Edd R. Heady. Curtis Hamilton was released after being questioned.
Montreal June 10 Ralph A Ammerman of Scranton Pa was elected president of the Kiwanis clubs of America at the annual convention here Indianapolis and Memphis Tenn contested to host the 1927 convention with sessions today indicating decisions to be made on the 1927 gathering.
In Jacksonville Florida on June 10 Ruth Bryan Owen plans to request a recount of the Democratic fourth district primary race. With only a few precincts remaining W. J. Sears leads Owen by more than four hundred votes as county results show Sears ahead in decisive majorities.
Toledo Ohio June 10 A credible authority says Willys Overland Inc plans a new light four cylinder car soon. It will directly compete with Ford and Chevrolet with a European style construction. Announcement expected around July first. The car aims for high speed, low construction, and better fuel economy than present models.
During the Phil Adler Days sale marking 41 years in business, Adler and Co. displayed early store purchases and awarded prizes for the oldest relics. Winners included Mrs. Sarah E K Overleese for a dress from 1885, Mrs. A L Witt for a fringed shawl, Mrs. Mark D Jones for a 1885 pan, and Mrs. Emma Nealis for a fork bought in 1885.
The State Board of Health bans returning any books from homes with smallpox scarlet fever or diphtheria. Librarians will not accept books from these homes to prevent disease spread. The policy follows health officer lists and explains reduced circulation amid fears.
Morgantown W Va June 10 The United Mine Workers first attempt to use an injunction in an industrial dispute failed. The court dismissed the petition to compel four large Pursegrove and Paisley area mines in Cleveland to operate under union agreement noting the wage scale was signed by a subset not representing the entire union or operators. The decision said few men cannot bind thousands to a contract.
Seoul June 10. Police arrested about 300 after disturbances at the elaborate funeral of ex emperor Yi. Thousands, including 20,000 troops and 25,000 students, marched in dawn ceremonies as Revolutionary pamphlets circulated.
Orebaugh Shel byville salesman for Calm et Baking Powder Company pleaded guilty to public intoxication in City Court before Mayor Tauer. He was fined 40 dollars after arrest Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Park by Patrolman Henderson and Park Officer Wallace McCann.
Boone county’s May primary ran up a total cost of 2254.43 with about 400 more than 1924 due to fewer candidates and higher ballot expenditures. Absent ballot votes grew by roughly 500 to 000 since two years ago. Election board claims were trimmed through equalization. inspectors earned 4 per day for three days while other election board members were paid 8 per day for two days.
Washington, June 10. President Coolidge may stay in a hotel while repairs secure the White House roof for winter. Officials seek 35,000 for roof replacement and 25,000 for temporary quarters, funds to be available July. An appropriation bill already provides 110,000 for repairs and maintenance.
Indianapolis June 10 Charles Pangborn of Charleston succeeds Dr E J Tansey of Monrovia on the state livestock sanitary board Pangborn was appointed by Governor Jackson for a four year term.
Princeton New Jersey June 10 police used tear bombs and revolvers to disperse 1500 students after a student lark near Blair Hall spiraled into near riot. Two students were arrested as rockets flew and a false alarm brought the fire department. Police reported five tear bombs fired and shots fired as the crowd refused to disperse.
Washington June 10 Farm leaders pressed for adequate relief as the fight over price stabilization and the Haugen equalization fee stalled. Mellon warned Congress against proposed measures while southern and cotton state senators balked at applying the fee to cotton. A Senate vote tally showed forty four likely supporters, short of a majority. Compromise talks with Senator Simmons and southern allies continued, with the cotton issue blocking progress and a possible White House veto looming.
