Tevington and Kydane report a suit filed by city, county and state tax collectors against U1 banks and trust company over franchise taxes since 1932 amounting to 890000 dollars. Collectors claim percentages from tax collections and threaten action if state law limits. Banks plan to appeal to the United States Supreme Court.
The Senate passed a bill to authorize taking the twelfth census with a director of census and five expert statisticians appointed to arrange for the 1900 census. An attempt to certify census bureau employees by the civil service commission failed. the bill limits to two thirds the share from any one group. The vote was unanimous.
