Community leaders and hotel men clash over anticipated visitor discrimination amid a brewing hotel boycott.
Charles N. Gorham of Rockford has completed stock solicitation for a new insurance firm to be perfected later this month. Capital stock of 2100,000 is subscribed and the company will operate on an annual plan in northern Hinds counties, covering erodes windstorms. Gorham likely to serve as secretary with prominent local backers supporting the project.
A 10 year old girl identified as Clara Castron was brought to Bellevue Hospital by three men and a woman from Evansville. She claims the name Rosa Milburn and says she was kidnapped. Doctors have not yet ruled on her sanity.
In Campbell county Kentucky on motion day the Walling murder trial hearing centered on admissibility of Edward H Anthony and Cincinnati police chief Deitsch testimony. Defense sought to exclude both witnesses, arguing how evidence was obtained, while prosecutors argued the testimony corroborated Walling’s statements. Alonzo M Walling testified as the key witness with family present as spectators watched the proceedings.
A boiler-like cylinder exploded during testing at the Brooklyn foundry, injuring five workers. Thomas Higgins, 40, had his right leg amputated. Patrick Smith, 45, lost his left leg. others suffered severe burns and injuries. The cylinder had been inside a non drained vessel when struck with a hammer, causing a massive pressure rupture.
