Extension office hires Purdue students for summer work
Two Boone natives, Carol Cory and Susan Nichols, will work in the County Extension office this summer under a federally funded work study program. They will assist with summer foods and nutrition, fair preparation, speech and demonstrations contests, and Happening day camp, with salaries largely paid by federal grants. Cory is a freshman speech and hearing therapy major. Nichols is a management major and Alpha Gamma Delta member. Weather partly cloudy with possible storms tonight, lows in the low to mid 40s, Thursday partly sunny with highs mid 70s.

In a special election Dade County voters backed Anita Bryant and repealed the ordinance adding homosexuals to the Fair Housing and Employment Act. Bryant framed the result as vindication of moral values while opponent Jean O Leary called it ignorance and immorality. Final tally 202 319 yes to repeal 89 562 no. The election cost taxpayers 350000.
