Paris reports a settlement ending the French siege strike with a victory for workers. Only a fraction kept at work as the leftist government presses peace terms. A major 150,000 coal miners walkout seeks higher wages and better terms.
A list of Lebanon area businesses pledges to provide newspapers to patients at Witham and Williams hospitals for one year. Each day a different firm will have a paper delivered to a patient room with a friendly sticker. Participating firms include Wing Journal Company, Boone County Bank, Nelle Bie Fan Exclusive Millinery, Love En Correct Dress for Woven, Service Station, Thompson's Grocery, Myers Hotel, Star Drug Store, Bowers Electrical Shop, Lebanon Automotive Company, Wheeler's Linen and Hall and Frank Jewelers.
Boone County Tuberculosis Association announces two clinics in Boone county between the 16th and 24th with dates set later. One clinic at the Lebanon courthouse, the other in Jackson township at Jamestown or Advance. Patients from the horntown area will be treated in Lebanon due to caseload. Dr. James H. Stygall of Indianapolis will conduct periodic examinations again this month. Clinics are free to residents of Boone county. appointments via Miss Ina Overleese in the court house license office. Miss Martha Van Mates of the State Tuberculosis Association will attend the Boone County Teach Institute in August.
Ray Darnell Bud Clemens and Everett Rgan earned the required subscriptions to The Lebanon Reporter and Indianapolis News for a free trip to Washington D C on July 6. The contest closes June 22 and Boone county carriers are expected to join the group leaving Indianapolis July 5. The contest is open to carriers of both papers and the general public.
A joint resolution in Congress calls for a thorough investigation of the Black Legion by a committee of four senators and four representatives. The measure, introduced by Senator Benson and Representative Dickstein, asks to probe the group's character, operations, roster, finances, and distribution methods with a $100,000 appropriation and power to hold hearings nationwide.
President Roosevelt, returning briefly to Washington from Tennessee, planned an extended swing through Arkansas and Texas to mark centennial celebrations. Stops included Hot Springs, Little Rock, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Denison, with a stop in Vincennes and Rodgenville on return. Congress recesses for the GOP convention in Cleveland as tax talks limp along.
Paxton Indiana June 8 rescue crews found the burned bodies of Charles Webb 87 of Sullivan and Daniel Williams 40 of Paxton in the twenty eighth room of the Martin Digger coal mine. Webb left a widow and three children Williams left a widow and four children. Explosive cases triggered the detonation trapping them deep underground.
San Diego announces a 16 foot long giant death ray gun built under Prof. Harry May will be shown at the California Pacific International Exposition. The weapon, mounted on armored carriage and powered by 4.5 tons of equipment, can disintegrate metal and burn targets at hundreds of feet, with safety tests pending before public display.
The Boone County 4-H Agricultural Club will hold a meeting in the courthouse small courtroom Tuesday night starting at 7:30. All members leaders and officers are urged to attend. A program has been arranged.
London reports that a Universal Christian Conference will be held at Oxford next year under the Universal Christian Council for Life and Work to oppose the growth of fascism and state paganism. Dr J Ho Oldham warns the totalitarian state claims total authority over life, culture, education and family, demanding a life-and-death struggle for Christianity. The conference will address how paganism and totalitarianism threaten individual rights and Christian understanding of human existence.
In San Francisco a four story lodging house fire claimed six lives including Rev F C Clark a Cheyenne Wy veteran who burned after clinging to a ladder. Others killed were Mrs Clara Roland Joe Carmona and Fred Seiler with three more men unnamed. Fire officials suspect arson and compare clues with last month’s Shamrock club fire.

The Daily Vacation Church School started at First Baptist Church this morning at 9 o clock with 64 learners. It includes kindergarten with 18 pupils, primary 24, and junior 19, taught by Frances Robison, Anna Peart Ludlow, Mrs. Robert Dillon, Mrs. Russell Smith, Virginia Taylor, Dona Siess, Loraine Wolfington, Anna Clemons, Waneta Ford, C. A. Metz, and Barbara Cox. Primaries studied the church, made church window pictures, and toured nearby churches, studying the Bible.
Cleveland June 9 Former Senator James E Watson battled to preserve his time honored position as head of the Indiana delegation to the Republican National Convention. He faced a bitter dispute as Ralph F Gates anti Watson forces refused to join in backing Watson for chairman. Two other Hoosier Republicans, Ivan C Morgan and William G Irwin, were nominated for chairman as the morning progressed.
Clarence D. Chamberlain, the trans Atlantic flyer, outlines plans for a stratosphere flight to London. He will repair a grounded plane at Indianapolis Municipal Airport after a collision with an unlit concrete form and add instruments and blind flying gadgets. He intends to have a companion and hopes to seal the cabin for higher altitudes, drawing a comparison to Wildly Post.
Charley Robison, nine in a Central Indiana burglary ring, was removed from Boone jail to Indianapolis for fingerprinting and photographed before the plan to jail him in Danville on grand larceny charges tied to Hendricks county. A signed confession claimed Robison helped steal hogs, though he denied involvement as officers pursued charges.

Frank Knox of Illinois remains secluded at Castalia club near Sandusky awaiting the Republican convention. He has barred reporters and photographers, declining all interviews. Unconfirmed reports say Herbert Hoover may stop en route to Cleveland to address the convention and meet Knox.
