Elbert Perkins Dies After Illness in Lebanon
Elbert Perkins 73 long time Lebanon clothing merchant died Monday night at Witham hospital after a three week illness from complications. He retired from active business a month ago. Services set for Wednesday at Powell Memorial chapel with burial in Oak Hill. Born in Boone county he taught school briefly before a long career with John Hins & Co and E & E Perkins, later E Perkins Clothing Co. He married Adda L. Gregory in 1885. she preceded him in death.

Mrs. Guy Coxhart of Lebanon Route 12 suffered a fracture below the left shoulder joint and a dislocated left elbow when a Ford sedan driven by Peter Trips struck her running board as she and her 14 year old son Meredith removed papers from a car parked in front of her mother’s home on a cloudy Monday afternoon. She was taken to Witham hospital after head struck a tree. her son escaped unharmed. Trips said a severe coughing attack caused loss of control. police noted no excessive speed.

John Roe and Paul Delano, both 18 of Putnam county near Barnard, received sixty days in jail.

Indianapolis June 1 Karl Northern 28 sought for weeks as a suspect in the Amo State bank robbery. Police say he is also tied to multiple drug store holdups. Northern was arrested after entering an auto with a license plate used in a recent robbery at Martineville. A revolver was found. Tuberculosis Death Rate Drops to New U.S. Low

A gun battle between rum runners and hijackers was found north of the Sugar Creek bridge on US 52. A wrecked Cadillac with bullet holes, soaked cushions, and liquor containers moved by hijackers were noted, with occupants missing and a woman’s red Chinese hat found at the scene. Police were unable to reach the wreck before the hijackers fled.
