Massive air search for missing RC135 over the Bering Sea
A four engine RC135 reconnaissance aircraft with 19 servicemen aboard vanished 30 minutes after takeoff from Shemya in the western Aleutians en route to Bilson AFB near Fairbanks. An extensive search in the Bering Sea is ongoing and the Pentagon states the plane was not shot down.

City police report two incidents of theft today in Lebanon. At the Dog N Suds Drive-In, 1416 West South Street, a front window was broken and a cash box rifled. manager Randy Sloan found the loss at about 10:30 a.m. A separate report cites Mrs. Jessie Simpson, 505 Essex Drive, whose purse disappeared from the North Field Laundromat around 8 a.m., with about $20 cash missing.

Pact Calls For 1.5% Hike And Retirement Pay
Lebanon Community School Board and Classroom Teachers Association reached a 1970 contract with a starting bachelor degree pay of 6500 and a total rise of about 7.5 percent. The master degree scale ranges from 6883 to 11310 over 16 years. The pact costs about 160000 and adds 1.5 cents to the tax rate over ten years to cover expected retirements. It also provides retirement pay for unused sick leave, with 10 per day for 65 and 25 per year beyond 15 years, plus 900 for 90 unused days and 1000 for 40 years to date. New board member Kenneth Limp participated in the session.
