Joint Installation Highlights Lebanon Jaycees Wives Event

The Lebanon Junior Chamber and wives held a gala joint installation with a Calypso theme at the diner. Rev Forrest E Goodfellow led the invocation, John Don icidson presided, and Ralph Bressler Jr. was installed as Jaycee president along with new officers. Awards honored Ben Hoberts, Wesley Nelson, Jim Mrmoaba, Don Floherts, and others for service and committees.

U S Hearing On Suit To Bar Girard Trial Set For Tuesday

A morning collision near Fayetteville, North Carolina killed 16 to 17 migrant laborers aboard a flat-bed truck and injured 14 others. Witnesses recalled a ball of fire as the fire spread, with victims laid across Highway 301 and 102. The tractor-trailer driver and flat-bed operator were among the dead. 21 hospitalized, many in critical condition.

1000 Attend 4H Barbecue at Boone County Fairgrounds

A large turnout for a 4H barbecue near town drew an estimated thousand attendees. Local families and children enjoyed chicken barbecue, baked beans, and other foods as volunteers from 4H clubs and the Boone County Council staffed grills and serving tables. Community leaders and guests from Leba non and area groups helped with meals and cleanup, delivering a lively rural gathering.

Parade of Stars Cattle Sale Draws Buyers at Boone County

Forty head of registered Polled Shorthorn cattle changed hands yesterday at the Parade of Stars sale held at the Boone County Sales Barn. About 300 buyers from the United States and Canada attended as nineteen top bulls and heifers sold on the auction block. Top bulls surpassed $900 each while four top heifers brought $760 each. Several cattle shipped to Canada and an Alabama buyer purchased several head. Cattle came from eleven Indiana herds with consignments also from Illinois Ohio and Michigan.

Thorntown Pastor to Be Ordained at Methodist Meeting

Rev Lester Kaepfmeier of the Methodist church in Thorntown will be ordained during the Traveling Elders Order at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon in the final session of the Annual Conference of Northwest Indiana Methodist churches. The four day conference is at Purdue University. Knopfmeier is a Butler University 1957 graduate. Mr and Mrs Knopfmeier attended Butler alumni events and he will participate in the Commietirement text Monday evening.

May rainfall was 6.03 inches, far below 11.13 inches last year, with five months totaling 20.8 inches. Precipitation sits 35 above normal, May 1959 cooler than 1958, frost on May 4–5, high 62 on May 30, low 30 on May 4, average highs 72.7, lows 9.96.

Burglary Strikes White Town Area Steals Three Guns

Between May 31 and today the residence of William F near White Town was burglarized while the family was away. Deputy Sheriff Denney and Sheriff Slagle responded to a 2 am call at East Farm. Reported loot includes a .22 rifle, a .22 revolver, a .38 Smith and Wesson revolver, plus a Delta spot lantern and damaged drawers. Detective Dale McCurdy from the Lafayette State Police post was summoned to Lebanon to investigate.

Recovery of Lafayette Taxi Driver Body in River

Police recovered the body of 42 year old taxi driver William H Sliger from the Wabash River three miles north of Lafayette Indiana and searched for his wife Victoria 35 who is believed drowned. The brother found fishing gear and personal items at the scene but no sign of the couple. Police theorize Victoria could not swim and William tried to rescue her.

Three Farm Residents Report Dog Thefts Nearby

Boone County sheriff reports three dogs stolen in a rural area about four miles southwest of Lebanon over the past several days. A pedigreed German Shepherd with two pups under a month old disappeared with a black and white toy poodle also missing. Victims include Joinsen, Edith Crain, and Nathan Jette. thefts occurred Monday or Tuesday night.

Federal Order Delays Return of Army Prisoner Girard

Judge McGarraghy held a habeas hearing on whether Army specialist Wik S. Girard should be brought to Washington or tried in Japanese civil courts.
