Observatory Gift To Wabash College In Crawfordsville

Crawfordsville Indiana June 6 a large observatory and telescope were presented to Wabash College and will be installed at once. The gift was made by W R Jewell of Danville Illinois though he is not an alumnus his long support of the school is noted.

Ponies Lose to Bandits in Nashville Holdup

Two Tennessee horsemen, J. D. Doyle and R. Bailey, reported to police in Lebanon after being robbed of 840 dollars near U S Route 52 while returning from a Washington racecourse winnings. The bandits fled toward Chicago in a new Ford after the assault. Doyle and Bailey, Nashville real estate operators who also race horses, suspect the robbers tailed them from the track.

Des Moines June 6 Iowa voters in the largest primary field in state history chose GOP and Democratic nominees for state and district offices. Senator Brookhart fought for renomination amid charges of nepotism and disloyalty. Opponents included Field Haynes Cook Cosson and Eickelberg. Democrats backed anti prohibition sentiment led by Louis Murphy and Daniel Steck with focus on cutting expenditures and taxes. Two Women Escape Burning Buick After Crash

A Buick coupe burst into flames after hitting a culvert on U S Road 52 south of Lebanon. Two women fled the wreck and escaped into a trailing car, with explosions from cartridges in the rear of the coupe lighting up the scene. State police found a revolver and tear gas gun among the debris. Ohio and Illinois license plates were found on the vehicle as witnesses saw the women flee toward Indianapolis in a following car.

Engineer killed in wreck at Durand Illinois

Durand Illinois June 6 The engineer of the Southwest Limited to the Chicago Milwaukee St Paul and Pacific railroad was killed and two mail clerks injured when part of the train derailed by a washout near Durand. The locomotive diner and one sleeper left the tracks the diner and other sleeper remained upright. The engineer last name Rowe and the injured clerks, unnamed, live in Milwaukee where the train was bound.
