Family Team Installed To Head Jaycee Jayshees In Lebanon

A family team was installed to head the Lebanon Jaycees and Jayshees at the Conservation Club banquet Saturday night. Alyn McConnaha and Mrs McConnaha were installed as presidents of the groups while Sam Oats and Sally Byrd received honors for outstanding service and Sparkplug and Key Man awards respectively. New Jaycee officers include Ron Ebert extern al vice president J C Fisher internal vice president Marty Smith secretary Jim Zaharak o treasurer and Kincaid John Shives as directors. Jayshees officers include Mrs Bob Byrd vice president and other officers plus several Sparkplug and Spoke award recipients.

Boone County Board of Review Opens 30 Day Session

The Boone County Board of Review convened today for a 30 day study period at Rush Harmon’s office. Members include E. O. Wolgast Paul Cross and county officials McCann Highland and Harmon with Harmon as president. The board will review assessments on taxpayer complaints and equalize property values, with first action checking church and lodge exemptions.

Indiana 5 Day Weather View Outlook

United Press International reports Indiana will see near normal temperatures in the south and up to three degrees below normal in the north. Normal highs range from 75 to 85, with lows of 55 to 63. Cooler conditions are expected in the north Tuesday or Wednesday, with little statewide change afterward. Rainfall totals about three quarters of an inch through frequent showers or thundershowers.

Three-Alarm Fire Damages Evansville Downtown Stores

A three-alarm blaze in Evansville's business district started on a third floor attic above Smith & Butterfield and spread to six stores including Schamberg Dress Shop Levinson Men's Wear The Wells Home Drapery Shop and Ridgway's Optometry. Fire crews used aerial trucks to attack the flames. damage is estimated in the hundreds of thousands with several hundred workers noting smoke-filled streets.

UN Security Council debates cease fire amid Middle East fighting

The 15 nation UN Security Council heard Israel and the United Arab Republic accuse each other of triggering war as fighting swirled around UN Headquarters in Jerusalem. Three Indian soldiers were killed when Israeli planes attacked UNEF encampments, prompting Thant to report the compound seized by Jordanian troops and urging removal of UNEF forces.

Youth Shot In Gasoline Theft Near Sidney Indiana

In WARSAW Indiana a 17 year old youth Roger Dean Caudill from Claypool was hospitalized in satisfactory condition after being shot while attempting to steal gasoline from Willard Pence’s tank near Sidney. Pence fired eight rounds from a 16 gauge shotgun and 11 rounds from a 30 30 rifle wounding Caudill in the buttocks face and stomach. Caudill fled on foot leaving a car behind, and a motorist took him to Wabash County Hospital. Pence said he waited at the tank and drained water into the tank after the incident.

Allied Forces Kill 879 Reds In Four Days

UPI reports at least 879 Communist troops killed in four days of fighting in northern provinces. US Marines pushed through Hiep Duc Valley south of Da Nang, facing 2,000 more enemy troopers fleeing toward coast bases. North Vietnam MIG-17s downed. two American planes lost. South Vietnamese forces claim 243 Viet Cong killed near Quang Tri DMZ outskirts.

Weekend traffic toll rises to 521 in Indiana deaths

United Press International reports fifteen weekend fatalities across Indiana raising the 1967 toll to at least 521. Incidents spanned Vermillion County near Cayuga, Bloomington area and multiple counties, with victims including three Illinois family members and teens. Officials cited fog and poor visibility in several crashes.

Scout Fair Showcases Camp Life At 4 H Fairgrounds

Troop 358 Zionsville hosted a large Great Northwest District Scout Fair with 30 units displaying indoors and outdoors at the 4 H Fairgrounds. Visitors enjoyed foods from open pit fire and baked goods as 1500 people attended. Highlights included a Pinewood Derby and a games meet among Scouts, Cub Scouts, Explorers, and officials from Boone and Clinton Counties.
