Inbound passenger train No 17 with seven coaches derailed on an open switch in the yard of the Chicago Rock Island and Pacific this morning. The crash wrecked its own engine and two other locomotives. engineer Robert Atkinson and two others were fatally injured, while several passengers and enginemen were shaken but not seriously hurt. Injured workers hailed from Peoria. Representative Lee Browne of Ottawa was in the car with the train crew.
