Prominent Boone County Leader A C Daily Dies At Home

Hon A C Daily former State Auditor and Lebanon National Bank president died last night at his home corner Washington and West streets after a year of declining health. Born in New Carlisle Ohio he moved to Boone County in 1835 and rose to public office, banking leadership, and fraternal honors. Daily served as county auditor and state auditor and led Lebanon National Bank from 1867 until his death. He was a respected Republican and held roles in Masons Odd Fellows and local church work. He is survived by two children and a brother.

County declines saloon licenses in Martineville

County Commissioners refused to grant saloon licenses to John N. Tackett and Francis Fisher in Martineville First ward, ruling saloons public nuisances and unsuitable for men of good character. They found rooms blocked by permanent screens and cited disruption around the establishments, noting public disturbance and law violation concerns.

Gambling Raid Near New Ross Nets Seven Fined

A New Ross special reports marshal Offilia Hedge with four men raided an old barn in George Powell’s pasture near the J C railroad. Seven men were arrested for gambling and brought before Squire Peterson who fined each 85.50. All paid except one who was laid out.

The Noblesville Ledger reports William Gunton a four section hand on the Midland has, through attorney Charles Votter, sued the company for 5000 dollars damages after an accident near a trestle switch a few weeks ago injuring him.

Mayor Schmitz Trial Opens in San Francisco Court

San Francisco June 5 The Schmitz extortion trial opened with twelve jurors as Assistant District Attorney Honey presented the case against Mayor Schmitz charging extortion of 11175 from Delmonico's L Malfanti. Deputies Raid Near Zionsville For Seines

Deputies from the Indianapolis game wardens office raided Eagle township searching fifteen residences for seines. One unlawful size seine was found in possession of S. B. Lane, with an affidavit filed in circuit court. The old dilapidated seine was confiscated and brought to Lebanon. Prosecutor Hornaday plans to dismiss, stating the action unwarranted. Indy fishermen may face prosecution for Sunday fishing near Zionsville.

Peculiar Color Fox Squirrel Report in Zionsville

Henry W Nichols near his home found a fox squirrel of peculiar color three years ago. A later litter produced much whiter young with a chalk white tail and olive gray neck and head. One cub trapped becomes a household pet as observers seek to capture the rest to study a possible new species.

Sheridan Man Convicted Under Blind Tiger Act

In Noetesvings Indiana Sheridan restaurant keeper William Frank Lin was fined 40 and sentenced to thirty days in jail for keeping liquors in his place of business. Officers found a pint of whisky during a search, marking the county's first conviction under the recent blind tiger act.
