Longtime Lebanon gas station owner hands over to new owner
Cliff Linton of 318 North Park Street closed out 37 years in the service station business Tuesday by turning over the Gulf station on West Main to Mike McGinley. Born near Lebanon, he first worked there in 1934, served, then bought half, then sole ownership ten years later. He plans a break for gardening and a Washington trip to visit his son, saying he isn’t retiring but has no immediate plans. He intends to stay involved with the American Legion while enjoying time off before deciding his next move.

UPI reports San Diego appears Nixon’s preferred site for the Republican National Convention with White House aides inviting city officials to bid. Nixon has not stated a firm preference though San Clemente is nearby. the Site Selection Committee will visit in about two weeks amid bids from Chicago Houston San Francisco Miami Beach and Louisville.

Doctor Orders Welfare Cash For Liquor Use
Boston report says a Revere welfare recipient was paid 1200 to buy 182 quarts of liquor over a year on doctor orders. Audits show 19 free quarts were provided during a 40 day hospitalization. Filipinos Rob Navy Bank At Sangley Point Base
A group of Filipinos robbed the American Express bank inside Sangley Point U.S. Navy Base near Manila taking 42000 in U.S. currency. A U.S. Marine lieutenant and one robber were killed in a gun battle. The robbers used a bakery truck to enter the base and released hostages before escaping through a fence breach. Philippine authorities pursued escaped suspects and noted a prior Sangley Point robbery earlier in the year. The dead Marine’s name was not released pending kin notification.
