The city of Lebanon greeted racing star Mel Kenyon with a parade, awards on the courthouse lawn, and a key to the city after his third place in the Memorial Day classic. Brother Don Kenyon and pit crew member Gene Thomas received praise and lifetime memberships from local groups. A private dinner followed and a Fourth of July Committee meeting was announced for June 5.

Yanks lose men in Saigon rescue bid tragedy
U S and South Vietnamese forces report heavy Viet Cong action around Saigon. An American wounded near a bunker was left for hours as Viet Cong shot rescuers. In a second clash 22 miles northwest of Saigon South Vietnamese outpost aided by U S aircraft repelled an assault by 400 North Vietnamese using flamethrowers. Airman patches air conditioned choppers in Vietnam
Sp/4 Mike O'Ken of Lebanon and his 195th Assault Helicopter unit toil long hours in Vietnam with Huey choppers. He earns about $200 monthly plus clothing and room and board.
