Joel Barrett the Lebanon Boys Club executive director since March 1962 resigns effective June 26 to take a similar post with the Beloit Wisconsin Boys Club of America Barrett who came to Lebanon in 1961 helped win support for a new club building on West Main Street now nearing completion He will head a 1200 member program at a four year old Beloit club on a 10 acre site beside a golf course

MSD Summer School Enrolls 500 at Jr High
MSD Summer School in Lebanon opens Monday with about 500 students enrolled for an eight week session. Classes meet at the Junior High with reading rooms 30 31 and 34 on the main floor of the East or Meridian Street building. Free Pheasants to Be Distributed by Boone County League
The Boone County Conservation League will give away several hundred day-old pheasant chicks to 4-H members farmers and others Sunday morning at the club house. Eggs set in an incubator on May 15 should hatch Saturday with a 23 day incubation. Chick care and starter mash will be supplied and birds may be released at six to seven weeks on their own premises. The League also hosts its fifth monthly trap shoot at Conservation Park on East Noble Street with traps opening at 10 a.m. and competition starting at noon.

Judge awards $2,466 to Blackwood defense firm in rape case
Hamilton County Judge Charles Ardery approved $2,466.16 to McCart and McCausland for defending Ira T. Blackwood, former Zionsville barber charged in 1960 with raping a 13 year old near Carmel. The firm claimed 178.25 hours at $15 an hour but was cut to 158 hours plus $71.30 auto and $4.86 phone expenses, with costs charged to taxpayers. The case moved from Noblesville to Boone Circuit Court. Blackwood was freed on bond, later found in Chicago, then returned for trial where he was cleared after the witness failed to appear.

An 18 year old Carmel youth near death after a collision at the intersection of State Roads 32 and 421. Phillip Ray Perkins suffered possible head injuries and was transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Truck driver Milton E Wagle of Franklin Ohio was injured as well. The 1955 Chevrolet was destroyed and the truck sustained $450 damage. Charges pending against Wagle.

Akerman Drug Store becomes the first in the city to install a motorized drive in window for order taking and prescriptions. Delue Akerman notes growing demand for casual service while Max Cowan says all purchases can be made from the window.
