Noble Beck of Boone County State Bank was honored at a Tuesday retirement dinner at Alen Country Club after 39 years of service. About 33 employees, spouses, directors, and guests attended as Beck, a longtime head bookkeeper and assistant cashier, received a luggage set and a new Mercury car. Beck also runs a Whites town area farm with wife Naomi and son Wesley, with Stanley pursuing a master’s degree in Chicago. other family members attended.

Pierre Salinger, former Johnson aide, won the California Democratic nomination for U.S. senator in a primary race. He beat Alan Cranston and 11 others as Gov. Edmund G. Brown backed Cranston.
