Private Claude Clayton writes from France to Elizaville Christian church praising the church flag service star and thanking supporters. He notes YMCA activities, weekly services, Bible classes, and sports keeping troops fit while he hopes for more letters and a reunion before year’s end.
Will J. Robinson learned last night his Ford touring car, missing since last Wednesday during his daughters shopping in Indianapolis, was found in Columbus Ohio and the thief arrested. Robinson heads to Columbus to retrieve the vehicle. a fifty dollar reward had been offered.
Clyde Kersey of 902 West Main street was arrested Saturday afternoon for speeding on West Main Street. Chief Dale ordered him to appear in the mayor's court. He pled guilty and was fined one dollar plus costs. sentence suspended by Mayor Tauer.
Saturday night in Indianapolis Steve Beck a former saloon keeper now running a refreshment stand at 24 West Ohio street was arrested on charges of maintaining a common nuisance and operating a blind tiger. Police found a quart bottle with about three drinks and two whisky glasses under the bar. Beck was asleep in a car outside and woke only after police entered.
The county board of review convened for a 30 day session to equalize taxes and adjust as needed. Members include Assessor Willard Stephenson Auditor Cleve Goodwin Treasurer John Thomas E C Gullion and Relic Williams. Hearings are set with township assessors from June 17 to June 27 across Marion Clinton Washington Jefferson Sugar Creek Thorntown Lebanon Center Perry Eagle Zionsville Harrison Worth Jackson Jamestown Advance and banks and trust companies.
John Fairfield of Walnut street was arrested by Officer Dale on an affidavit by John Cooper. Fairfield pled guilty to speeding on East Noble street yesterday in mayor's court and paid a total of $11.05, including a $1 fine.
Wallace Osborn, Harry L. Carter and William Long Jr were reclassified by the local conscription board last week into class A and were examined today, resulting in their retention for general military service.
