Plant Closes After Fight at International Steel Plant
Evansville Indiana, six plant entrances saw fists fly as pickets and non-strikers clashed. About 60 non-strikers and 100 strikers fought in an early skirmish, injuring roughly 40 people and forcing the plant to shut down. Leonard Sawyer required head care at Deaconess Hospital. Jack DeForrest, the plant’s personnel manager, said work could not resume under the conditions.

Sheriff tops Indiana police training course honor
Sheriff Jim McConnaha of Boone County was named top graduate in a two week police administration and jail operation course. He paid the costs himself as state funds were unavailable. The session drew officers from across Indiana and covered jurisdiction, county offices, auto codes, criminal investigation, firearms and modern forensics by IU criminologist Professor R. Borkenstein. Next year’s course is planned at Purdue University in April.

The Indiana Public Service Commission and Indiana Bell Telephone Co announce lower rates expected to save about 1.15 million dollars annually for Bell customers. About 600,000 families will gain from reduced basic monthly charges, with suburban zone adjustments benefiting tens of thousands more.
