Colfax Man Charged In Thorntown Service Station Burglary
Colfax resident Harshbarger was arrested Saturday and charged with breaking into the Davis service station in Thorntown and a Colfax service station. State police aided the Thorntown marshal, with a night watchman reporting the suspect after he talked his way out of arrest. Davidson said Harshbarger confessed to the Thorntown burglary, a Colfax elevator break in, and stealing ten gallons of gas, claiming work for a Lebanon contracting firm.

In Portsmouth New Hampshire a flash explosion in the drydock of the Navy submarine Sirago killed two civilian painters Racuel Senechel 28 and Joseph E A Housseau 40. A nearby sailor Engineman first class John Perry of Columbia Alabama was burned but not seriously hurt. State police report a bank robbery in which three men entered the Farmers and Merchants State Bank, forced two employees and three customers to the vault, and fled in a getaway car.
