Joliet Illinois June 2 An elderly state penitentiary inmate named John King claims to have designed a four blade compound propeller that reaches ninety percent efficiency. He says the idea came to him in a dream during solitary confinement and his model was built in the prison workshop. He has thirteen years left to serve and declined offers from the Navy Henry Ford and Guggenheim to commercialize his invention until released.

Rome reports Major Umberto Maddalena and Lieute Fausto Cecconi set a new sustained flight record by remaining aloft 67 hours 15 minutes on a fixed course. They landed when fuel exhausted aboard a Savoia monoplane with a 550 horsepower Fiat engine.

Executed in Gas Death Chamber in Nevada
Carson City reports R H White was executed at 4 43 a m in the Nevada state prison death chamber for the 1928 murder of Louis Lavell. He walked in with a smile and joked with guards as he was strapped to the chair. The process used cyanide gas generated by a sulfuric acid reaction in a crockery jar and cyanide eyes released by strings. White was the third inmate to die by gas in Nevada, following Gee Jon and S Jukich.

General Herbert M. Lord Dies at 70 in Washington
Brig. Gen. Herbert M. Lord, who followed Charles G. Dawes as director of the budget and served for years in government, died at his home in Washington after a long illness. A Maine native and former newspaper reporter, Lord rose to chief finance officer of the army and helped Dawes organize the budget bureau before his retirement.
