Early reports on the Kansas flood were exaggerated with estimates ranging from dozens to hundreds dead. Manhattan area drownings were unclear, North Topeka reported about twenty deaths, Kansas City faced heavy losses, Des Moines aided 5,000 flood refugees, and widespread inundation affected Brookville to Kansas City with tens of thousands displaced and rails flooded.

Washington June 2 The United States Supreme Court refused to grant a writ of habeas corpus in the case of Whitaker Wright who is in custody in New York awaiting extradition on charges of fraud in England The decision affirms the southern district court ruling and leaves Wright in custody while extradition proceeds.
York held the charged offense extraditable under the 1889 treaty with Great Britain. Chief Justice Fuller said the offense is criminalized by British law and New York penal code, giving the U S commissioner jurisdiction for Wright’s extradition. A tornado struck Gainesville and surrounding areas yesterday causing extensive destruction. Roughly eighty five dead, many women and children, with about forty injured and $300000 lost in property. Most victims were Gainesville and Pacoist cotton mill operatives.

Anderson Indiana June 2 Pred Garrett fourteen living in Park Place exposed to 4000 volt current through his body last night. He climbed a tree connected to a live wire with copper wire then received the shock. He was carried home unconscious and woke the next morning with his arm badly burned and his hand split. He said he got the shock all right.
John P. Brown of Connersville Indiana, secretary of the International Society of Arboriculture, travels about 4000 miles monthly inspecting forest reservations across the country. He notes growing public interest in preservation and plans to advise the international society. In Indiana, local groups erect a 100 foot flagpole atop Fairview Knob overlooking several counties and the Ohio river.
