Turks Rescue Hostage Kill Wound Gunmen in Kartal

In Kartal Turkey security forces fought two gunmen and freed 14 year old hostage Sibel Erkan after a siege that left one gunman dead and the other gravely wounded. The girl was reunited with her father a Turkish army major as crowds demanded punishment for the attackers. Munir Cayan the other victim died after being shot earlier.

Variable clouds and warm weather with scattered showers

Variable cloudiness and warm conditions bring a chance of scattered showers and thundershowers today tonight and Wednesday. Highs range from 80 to 85 this afternoon and 82 to 88 Wednesday with lows tonight from 58 to 62. Precipitation probability remains around 30 percent through Wednesday.

Whitcomb Orders Inheritance Tax Payment Of 143,221

Indiana Governor Whitcomb and budget director Taylor directed State Auditor Atkins to disburse 16.5 million dollars in inheritance tax windfall to 91 counties. Boone County receives 143,221 dollars for the general fund. The move comes after a revised assessment showing the state's finances healthier than hoped, allowing both the tax payout and a separate 46 million school distribution.

Cuba Agrees To Release Plane In Havana Turnover

Washington reports the United States will permit the Pan American Boeing 707 carrying 69 people to depart Havana on Wednesday after a four day detention. The hijacking occurred Saturday en route from Caracas to Miami and landed at Jose Marti Airport. White House press secretary Ziegler cited Swiss and Czech embassies for relay of release news and noted no link to the criminal seizure of four Cuban fishing vessels.

Eagles Celebrate Lebanon Lodge 50th Anniversary Weekend

The Lebanon Eagles Lodge marks a year long 50th anniversary with a Friday district meeting attended by Frankfort Lafayette Attica and Crawfordsville followed by a dance by the Custom Travelers. Saturday features registration lunch afternoon entertainment awards banquet and a 10 PM to 2 AM dance with Jimmy Hill and his Orchestra. Sunday includes breakfast initiation of the anniversary class and a main speech by Norman Bertagnolli who chairs the Central States Health and Life and oversees Illinois and Indiana. The order supports Cancer Fund Heart Fund Crippled Children's Fund and Hoosier Boys Town with sizeable local grants in Indiana.

New York Increases State Sales Tax to Four Percent
