Lebanon High School Graduation Night for 224 Seniors

Lebanon High School holds graduation for 224 seniors in the school gym. Speakers include Calvin Gullion Terena Cheryl Richardson and James A. Fisher. Diploma presenter Dr. Joseph S. Enrolled In Israel Schools Lebanon Grad To Study Native Languages

Gerald Allen Fisher, son of Dr. and Mrs. Gerald E. Fisher, will depart Indianapolis by plane for Africa then Israel to study languages and train as a missionary with Baptist Mid missions in Koumera Chad. He will tape record languages and later pursue a master’s program in Jerusalem.

Gemini 9 Postponed Again As Tech Glitches Hit Launch

Cape Kennedy reports last minute technical difficulties forced another delay of the Gemini 9 mission starring Thomas Stafford and Eugene Cernan. Officials delayed the launch beyond the six minute window needed to reach the 185 mile high target satellite in a 16,230 mph orbit.

Entry Opens For Miss 4-H Queen Contest

Mrs. James Shoemaker of Zionsville is named chairwoman for the Boone County 4-H Fair Miss 4-H Queen contest. Final judging and crowning occur opening night, Monday July 25 at 8 p.m. Entries must be 16 to 21, unmarried, in a local organization, and have completed one year of 4-H. Local Pastor Gets New Post

The Pilgrim Holiness Church of Lebanon says Reverend T Wayne Preusz resigns after seven years as local pastor to become General Representative for Sunday Schools and Youth in Indianapolis. He will direct youth programs and Christian education for the denomination. The Preusz family plans to move to a new home in Pike community around July 1. The church calls Reverend Howard Barefoot of Huntington to assume duties about July 1.

Phone calls flowed into the Reporter newsroom around noon as Lebanon amateur weather observer C. G. Lawler described the sight as a Coromia a colored circle around luminous bodies. He attributed it to diffraction by suspended water droplets, noting colors shifted as residents viewed it through sunglasses, lending the sky an eclipse like look.

Jury Trial Set In Boone County Rape Case

Donald Lee Tolin 30 of Indianapolis pleaded not guilty in Boone Superior Court to raping an 18 year old physical education student. Judge Paul Johnson Jr set bond at 5000 dollars and ordered a jury trial starting August 1. Prosecutor Eugene Burns requested a jury trial. Tolin, said to be an Indiana Central College student, told the judge he had not secured legal counsel.

Marion woman arraignment delayed in dismemberment case

Grand Circuit Judge Manuel Guererro delayed the arraignment of Edith Schmidt in Marion Indiana on a first degree serious case charge tied to the dismemberment slaying of her husband Larry Schmidt. Glenn Stewart also had arraignment postponed as Schmidt claims he injured Larry and she then dismembered him. authorities say the slaying occurred May 8 and Schmidt recanted an earlier story.

County 1966 weather short on precipitation in Boone County

Boone County remains almost 5.5 inches short of yearly precipitation. Weather observer H S Richardson notes June normal is 16.77 inches but May rainfall totaling 2.73 inches still left the year short. He cites dry springs linked to June floods and recalls a 1966 May with a record high 94 and low 27, plus winds averaging 15.5 mph.

Record cold grips Indiana as June opens

June arrived with frigid air across Indiana. South Bend saw 39 degrees and a light frost, Lafayette 38, Fort Wayne 39, and Evansville 41, setting a new June 1 low. Indianapolis hit 44, near the all time June 1 cold record. A warming trend is expected over the next five days with highs easing from 60s to mid 70s and lows in the 40s to 60s.
