Delay WU Walkout as Talks Continue in NYC Area
About 3,500 Western Union employees halted work in the New York metropolitan area for a midmorning meeting. They voted to return to duties after an armed truce while contract talks with the American Communications Association continue. Similar talks go on in Washington with the Western Union division of the Commercial Telegraphers Union, representing roughly 70,000 workers outside NYC. The CTU contract also expired, a walkout had been threatened but did not occur. The brief New York stoppage disrupted operations in about a third of the company's 130 metropolitan branches.
