Fire Destroys Grain Elevator at Jolietville

An unofficial estimate of 50000 dollars in damage followed a fire that destroyed the Acme-Goodrich grain elevator at Jolietville, Hamilton county, twelve miles west of Noblesville. The blaze gutted the building and its elevator equipment, with little grain saved. Firemen did not learn immediately how the fire started in the 85000 bushel facility.

Reformatory Trusties Escape From Indiana Prison

Two trusties with only months to serve staged a break from the Indiana reformatory at Pendleton. Arthur Eugene Davis, 24, and Garland Benjamin Rainey, 25, both from Lincoln City, fled while working in the garden at Fall Creek bottoms. Davis was sentenced October 2, 1948 in We County for vehicle taking and faced 1 to 5 years. Rainey received a 2 1/2 to 5 year term from Spencer County on April 28, 1948 for burglary. Authorities combed the river bank area after guards missed them at a routine check.

Lilienthal Faces Senate Accuser in Atomic Probe

Retail Group Proposes Warning System To Foil Shoplifters

Noble Waggener, secretary manager of the Retail Group, urged a telephone alert plan to notify police and chamber offices of suspicious characters. The scheme would alert businessmen who would cascade the warning about the operator. Ned Watts 83 Dies in Maryland After Stroke

W E Ned Watts 83 of Maryland died after a May 19 stroke at a daughter’s home in Elkridge where funeral services and burial were held. Born in Frederick he lived most of his life in Maryland and was known in Lebanon for visiting relatives. His wife preceded him. he leaves eight children two sisters and a brother including Mrs Isenhour and Paul Watts.

Otie Higgins Honored by SAS I eta Chapter

Miss Otie Higgins daughter of Dr and Mrs OC Higgins of Lebanon was honored by Sigma Alpha Iota as the outstanding three years in music teaching and faculty sponsorship at the Mississippi State College for Women. Anti Fly Campaign Set For June By Scouts and Chamber

Recreation Day Parade Plans Announced by City Official

TL Feldman community service director reported final preparations for the annual citywide Recreation Day parade and program tomorrow. Nelson Baby Hurt In Fall From Auto

Nancy Louise Nelson, year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Russell Nelson of Road West, was injured when she fell from a car Tuesday noon as it moved with her seated beside her father. The door unlatched, wheels passed over her, and she sustained severe abrasions and lacerations but no broken bones per the tending physician at Witham hospital. She was dismissed from the hospital.
