Lebanon staged two days of patriotic remembrance for soldiers and sailors who died in wars. The procession marched from the 189th Field Artillery Band led parade to Oak Hill cemetery where Fred Landis of Logansport spoke, flags and flowers decorated graves, and a firing squad saluted.

Cross Named Chief Manager of Indianapolis Clearing House
Harold Cross son of James M. Cross has been named chief manager of the Indianapolis Clearing House. He is believed to be the youngest ever appointed to the post. Cross became a state bank examiner six years ago and for the past three years has worked with the Clearing House. He is a Lebanon high school graduate and his wife was Miss Genevieve Rice of this city.

Boone County Agencies Meet To Hear Welfare Report
Representatives from about twenty Lebanon and Boone county groups meet at the Chamber of Commerce offices at eight to hear a committee report proposing a permanent Council of Agencies and a clearing house for welfare work. Newcomb Wins Flag Tournament and Bridge Prize
The Mien Country event concluded Saturday with a dinner dance. J. B. Newcomb of Indianapolis won the flag tournament by placing his flag on the nineteenth green. Mrs. Carl Bratton took first prize at bridge. Calvin Lenox earned second in golf with a 12 handicap, while Newcomb posted a 23 handicap for first in golf. Several players finished on the eighteenth and nineteenth greens as about thirty five flags were strung from the fourteenth fairway to the nineteenth green. Mrs. Bratton, Mrs. Waters, and Mrs. Ward Christie won the top three bridge prizes. Mrs. Jeanette Shirley led the music for the supper dance.

Pail To Link O Brien Involved In Hold Up Crimes
Pat O'Brien, 25, of Indianapolis, fined for intoxication in Boone County Court and released after payment. Authorities said no prior record. O'Brien was arrested after a car wreck east of Lebanon on State Road 82. Bruce, owner of the car, was later arrested in Indianapolis with alcohol and firearms seized.

Woman 77 Found Overcome by Gas at Mechanicsburg Home
Mrs Amanda Bennett 77 was found unconscious in her Mechanicsburg home by neighbor early today the gas stove partially open filling the room with fumes. She was taken to Witham hospital in serious condition and did not regain consciousness by mid afternoon. Mrs Bennett widow of Emerson Bennett has a daughter Mrs Schuyler Lawrence in Indianapolis.

Turning Point in Business Decline Reached Belide
Washington June 1 An administration prediction that the turning point in the business depression has been reached was joined by Secretary Mellon with a plan to restore government finances before year end. W L Cooper retiring director of the Commerce Department said the first quarter of 1931 marked the turning point in the long decline. Mellon announced a long term bond issue of 800 million dollars to cover short term debts due June 15 and strengthen the fiscal position for the new year. The issue bears 3 1 8 percent interest and will refund 589 million of certificates and 90 million in interest payments. Cooper cited factory gains, high raw cotton use, reduced stocks and more autos as signs of improvement and a drop in part time and overall unemployment following the winter. (Continued on Page Five)
