Sheridan youth drowns in Sugar Creek during swim

Cobb an 18 year old Sheridan resident drowned Saturday afternoon in ten to twelve feet of water near the Stuckey bridge on the Thorntown Frankfort road after cramps struck him while swimming with companions. Efforts to rescue him failed despite help from Will Adair and others. body recovered about 45 minutes later. He was born in Rush County Indiana on April 1, 1844 and moved to Lebanon in 1859. He is survived by one sister Mrs Elizabeth Henderson. Indianapolis Indiana July 6 Morton Hawkins, former president of the defunct Hawkins Mortgage Company of Portland, Ind, was found guilty by Federal Judge Baltzell of using the mails for fraud. He received a $10,000 fine and a total of 77 years in prison, with 5 years on each of fifteen counts and 2 extra years for conspiracy. He must serve at least 15 years.
