Lebanon Celebrates Fourth With Mixed Enthusiasm and Noise

Crowds marked the Fourth with flags bunting and small fireworks. A local boy led a modest demonstration while rain briefly cooled excitement. Large crowds gathered for baseball in Indianapolis and a parade of interurban cars carried many away from noisy streets.

Hooton seeks injunction against Indianapolis Telephone deal

In Indianapolis July 4 a complaint filed in Circuit Court by Prosecutor Elliott R. Hooton seeks an injunction to stop the Indianapolis Telephone Company from contracting with the city for lower fees and asks for a receiver to protect the New Telephone Company lease and rights. The suit names the state, the two companies, and city officials, seeking annulment of the current contract and restraining any action that would raise rates or alter payments to the city.

New Location for Interurban in Frankfort Bush Building

The Interurban will move to the Bush building south of Ohio Street after council last night granted a franchise renewal with a clause for a switch to the rear. The new freight and passenger depot will relieve curb unloading on main streets, improving city traffic.

De Mott Arrested After Confrontation At Dairy Building

In Indianapolis on July 4 John De Mott of 118 South Delaware street lingered near the Merchants Dairy Company Building at Delaware and Maryland streets. He was knocked down and charged with drunkenness and assault and battery after Johan Pressley foreman for the company struck him. Pressley, also charged with assault and battery, was released on a bond signed by Arthur Jordan of the company. Workmen said De Mott had been ordered to leave the site several times before the confrontation.

Democrats Name Lafollette For Township Trustee Nominee

Center township Democrats held a mass convention naming F. M. Lafollette by acclamation for township trustee. For assessor, Charles Warren and M. Owen Donehew competed with two ballots. Donehew won 54 to 48 on the second ballot. Crandall defeated Philadelphia 81 to 3 in a New York state match.

Ex Jamestown Man Develops Smoke Consumer Invention

John Hicks and Otto Nelson of Indianapolis claim a new smoke consuming device tested by Hicks in Jamestown. The unit uses a two thirds closed damper, a fuel-saving exhaust shaft, and a fan motor. They say it will cut smoke by 75 to 90 percent and fuel use by about 40 percent, with claims of 30 percent fuel savings at a lumber plant and higher heat from slack coal.
