Washington December 22 reports the House ways and means committee approved a $2 per gallon tax on whiskey and other liquors replacing the plan to share federal taxes with states. A $5 per barrel beer tax was also set, with debates over revenue estimates and interstate revenue sharing amid dry state opposition.
Stockholders of the First National Bank of Lebanon receive a notice from Comptroller J F T O Connor ordering a $100 per share assessment to raise 100 000 for liquidating the bank. The measure enforces individual liability based on uncollected assets and debts, with extensions available via staged payments through April 22 1934.

New York December 22 The stock market opened mixed with gold utility and liquor shares down sharply while silver and commodity shares stayed above prior close. A late morning surge driven by Roosevelt's silver plan produced gains up to 10 points but profit taking trimmed about half. Wheat rose briefly then fell, cotton gains narrowed from 1 to 0.50, and silver markets saw a sharp opening followed by partial declines. Leading issues included U S Smelting Federal Smelting American Smelting and Cerro De Pasco with 10 point rises halved by noon.
Chicago December 22 grains rose sharply after overnight news of the government's silver buying plan. July wheat climbed to 84 3/4 cents, up 5 cents, the day’s limit gain. Corn jumped as much as 2 1/4 cents with oats and rye also firming as heavy selling tempered gains.
Leonard Nicholson age 22 from northeast of Terhune pleads guilty to larceny. He is sentenced to sixty days at the state penal farm and fined $5 plus costs in City Court after pleading guilty to stealing chickens from Jesse Wright's farm southwest of Terhune. Two farmers saw him hide the fowls in an old barn and capture him.
A large cast from Lebanon churches will stage The Scenes from the Christmas Story in the high school gym Sunday at 8 pm. Directors coordinate 160 performers, a 60-member choir, and a 40-piece orchestra for a one hour fifteen minute nativity pageant with no admission charge and a free will offering. Delegations from Indianapolis, Plainfield, Crawfordsville, Frankfort, and nearby areas are expected. doors open at 7 pm.
Federal Circuit Judge Evan A. Evans ruled the Insull Utility Investments receivership suit was collusively brought and denied further fees for the former receiver Galvin Fentress and his counsel Cassels Potter and Bentley. The decision ends a two day hearing during which Samuel A. Ettelson accused Samuel Insull Sr Chicago banks and former Insull counsel of misconduct. Fentress and his team had already received 12500 dollars each.
New York, Dec. 22. Igor Sikorsky announced that the first trans Atlantic airliner built for Pan American Airways will be ready for a series of running tests early in January. The S-42, first of three sister ships, features revolutionary construction and is designed to fly the Atlantic or Pacific on regular mail schedules.

Captain John Stege led a 50 man raid on a Farwell avenue apartment used by escaped Indiana desperadoes. Three gunmen were killed in a two hour exchange. Police identified the dead as Katzwitz alias Frank Lewis Tilden alias Tattlebaum and Sam Ginsberg alias Harry Marks.
The Elks Lodge and Carey and Alexander staged a two day Christmas party for Lebanon grade school children. Today treats were distributed at the three grade schools and tomorrow at two o clock Campbell Alexander will host a show at the Colonial for the youngsters.
