Unemployment Drops to 27 Month Low in November
The Labor Department reports the U S unemployment rate fell from 5.5 to 5.2 percent in November, the lowest in 27 months. The number employed held at 82.5 million while unemployed fell by 300,000 to 4.5 million. White and adult male workers saw declines, while teen unemployment stayed at 15.4 percent. Average weekly earnings slipped to 138.01 with a shorter work week, though manufacturing hours rose to 40.9. Unemployment among Vietnam era veterans 20 to 29 remained at 6.2 percent. The BLS notes the average duration of unemployment dropped to 11.3 weeks.

Runaways Get Cold Skyjacker Committed To Mental Hospital
Jerry L. Haskett 33 of Lebanon was committed to Marion Veterans Hospital for 90 days after attempting to skyjack a private airplane at Terry Airport. No criminal charges were filed due to his mental disturbance. Two 15 and 13 year old runaways from New Buffalo Michigan were housed at Boone County Jail awaiting parents. Alabama authorities were to pick up three juveniles from Dora for transport on I-65.

Murder Trial To Open Monday In Circuit Court
Larry Eugene Cooper, 29, of Greenfield, stands accused of first degree murder in the February 17, 1972 slaying of Larry D. Yeager at the Candlelight Village construction site in Lawrence. The Boone Circuit Court trial before Judge Charles F. Thompson is set to begin Monday, with Cooper pleading not guilty. The case, venued from Marion County, was delayed from an original June 20 date. Defense counsel is Robert F. Craven and James Goodwin. Eugene B. Burns leads the prosecution with about 20 witnesses summoned.

Builder Seeks Annexation for Prairie Heights in Lebanon
Lebanon City Council will hear the first reading on December 18 for a 44,7012 acre annexation on Slaughter House Road by Clifford Builders. The Prairie Heights development plans 151 residential lots with homes priced from 17 500 to 24 000. Construction is slated to begin in spring 1973, bounded by Slaughter House Road I 65 Riley Road and S R 32. Clifford Builders also plans a spring start on Morningside over 50 acres already annexed on John Bart and Forkce Roads.

Water Quality Plan Review Sets 2020 Lebanon Population at 16200
Boone County officials and Lebanon city leaders plus Advance Jamestown Thorntown Whitestown and Zionsville reviewed alternative sewer plans as part of the 8 County Water Quality Control Program. The session outlined 2020 population projections, with Lebanon at 16200 and Zionsville Whitestown Thorntown Advance Jamestown at 6960 2100 1680 960 and 1420 respectively. The 18 month study will yield the 8-County Water Quality Control Plan due next spring for future sewage projects and water quality.
