Stakeout at Jail Ends With Arrests in Burglary Case
LAPORTE Indiana police wrapped a stakeout near the county jail arresting Charles K Man Harris 19 East Chicago and Robert E Keebe 21 after two suspects fled a car during a jail break bid. James Keebe 43 with sister Helen aided by high powered binoculars and hacksaws observed the cell window before officers moved in. The car was found stolen in fog with two revolvers. The trio faces charges of vehicle taking robbery and attempted jail break. A fundraiser to aid the fallen officer’s family collected cash from Fraternal Order of Police and private donors totaling more than 57 dollars along with larger gifts.

Forger's Loot May Be $70 000
Authorities said a bank forger may have netted at least 70000 through schemes and likely had at least one accomplice. The largest forgery was a 24504 counter check drawn on Taylor Construction and Realty Co at Indiana National Bank. Police and banking officials noted numerous transactions to keep accounts active and avoid suspicion. A warrant was issued under the alias Henry W. Fisher used by the forger.
